I don't hoon the Ranger too much. But when I do I turn AdvanceTrak and traction control, and oftentimes am in Sand Mode to turn RSC off.

I saw a post here where a user who had a bull bar or something was able to get the company who makes the AutoStop Eliminator to make a similar custom module for the parking sensors. Maybe something like that could be done for the AdvanceTrak button? Although the long push requirement might throw a monkey wrench in that idea.

Also, you can't use cruise (at least not ACC) with AdvanceTrak turned off.
I'm not really hooning it I just live on dirt roads and drive a bit on the faster side coming and going. I bet it was expensive for custom stuff seeing as they charge $85 for something you can do with Forscan. I messaged them though anyways to see what they say.

Edit: They're not gonna do it. The custom parking sensor was just a modified Autostop that anyone can order.

Kind of hijacking this thread. I guess there was a Mythbusters episode that showed letting the engine idle for one minute after driving really gave the turbo a chance to cool down. that might help longevity? Thoughts?

BTW, I didn't see this episode. I was telling a co-worker about this thread before it went off the rails and he mentioned it.

Edit: don't know details about make, model of the engine tested on the episode. just curious as to what the members think about idling to cool the turbo.
Hi Steve,

It is a given for the C7 big CAT diesel in my motorhome.... I do the same for my Ranger too...

Best,
Phil

I’m just pulling your chain brother. Hope your situation gets taken care of. Good luck
No worries, I’ll keep you updated. The dealership is about 3 weeks behind so I won’t hear back for a good minute.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that you’re the only one experiencing that lol. A thief that not only doesn’t steal anything, but cleans up after himself with a rag. Sounds like the guys at my local shop could use him

Someone needed boost and fast for their stolen Nissan engines ahead of race wars.

Dang right brother, I was a LEO, I know how much you make. I only wish there was a PT job selling tailgate dampers back in the day.
LEO's around here (NY/NJ) don't need part time jobs! Not if they've been on the job for a while. I know a small town Lieutenant that just retired......last year's salary was 227K.

Hang in there Floyd. :) There are some very helpful people on here.
Thanks Tracy!
Always glad to help. Or sidetrack a thread if I can't offer help.

LEOs should be well paid, that's unquestionable.

But that's ridiculous. Without a doubt the citizenry of that small town would of been better off with that LT making about $100k/year less and two more rookie officers on the street. Or a new cruiser every year. Or ammo so that the guys could shoot more than once a year for qualifing.

Government at it's finest.

There's probably some sort off liability concerns on their part with defeating a "safety device."

Looks like if you really want to you'll have to stick with the short button push to turn off traction control or long push to turn off AdvanceTrak and traction control.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it too much. My biggest concern about it is the ill effects of using the parking brake on hot brakes. Luckily most everywhere I park is flat enough that using the parking brake is not needed. The additional wear and tear on the rear brakes doesn't concern me too much. But I do think the days of doing the rear every other brake job are long gone.

If I had one of those nice IR temp probes I'd do an expirement. I'd leave the house on cold brakes. Drive a nice spirited loop of about 15-20 minutes. When I got back I'd check the rear brake disc temps. I'd then repeat the same loop, at the same spiritedness level, but with AdvanceTrak and traction contol off and measure again. I think the results would be interesting and it would help you decide of you think turning them off is beneficial to you.

Come to think of it, my Fluke probably has a temp setting and probe. Haven't used it in a while, might have to dig it out.

How did they actually get in ?
This is going to sound way crazy, but the cop told me that they broke in using some high tech device, apparently they can unlock the vehicle and lock it?????? Anyway my truck wasn’t the only one that was broken into that night.

So , no evidence of a break in , because the high tech device ?... I see , ? , crime scene probably appeared as if the truck had been left unlocked ?...

The truck was locked when I came to it, it unlocked so that’s why I was confused, anyway this has nothing to do with the turbo blowing recently js. That incident happend I paid for the new turbski and insurance ended up reimbursing after looking at the police reports and sending a adjuster out.
