Silicone hose with 1/4" soft copper tubing inserted. Keeps its shape and won't rot. Works for me!Now if we could just find an option for the fan clutch debacle, I may finally get a good night's sleep![]()

Thats a start , but I'd feel much better with a break away harness of some kind so it pulls apart close to the fan and doesn't rip and yank and twist the hell out of everything . Seems doable, but so did my drivesharft...Silicone hose with 1/4" soft copper tubing inserted. Keeps its shape and won't rot. Works for me!
I guess it all depends on what you are trying to protect.Thats a start , but I'd feel much better with a break away harness of some kind so it pulls apart close to the fan and doesn't rip and yank and twist the hell out of everything . Seems doable, but so did my drivesharft...
A few people have reported finding the deteriorating hose, with no other damage. So I think the catastrophic event where things fail and rips everything to shreds is extremely rare.Thats a start , but I'd feel much better with a break away harness of some kind so it pulls apart close to the fan and doesn't rip and yank and twist the hell out of everything . I agree, the catastrophic failure seems more than just the hose giving way. Unless over time, a completely unattached hose causes undue instability, wear, vibration and ultimately seizure. Then whammo!Im not convinced the hose really does all that much if/when one lockes up, the ones I saw would have taken out a new hose imo, I would just hate to see that much wiring damage if a simple connector could prevent it...
When that hose gives way at both ends the cable is then supporting its own weight and the weight of the hose. It will eventually sag/dip enough to begin to touch the belt and/or rotating clutch fan components, which rub through the cable insulation or worse, grab it ripping it apart.I agree, the catastrophic failure seems more than just the hose giving way. Made in China!I replaced the tensioner I was using from my Escape with a new aftermarket one. I used a Litens brand. It fit perfectly and is working great so far.
The hose is also the fan clutch anti-rotation device. When it breaks, the wires have to keep the fan clutch from rotating and they aren't capable of holding up to that. When that hose gives way at both ends the cable is then supporting its own weight and the weight of the hose. I am well aware of the history of this failure. I said nothing untrue. When that hose gives way at both ends the cable is then supporting its own weight and the weight of the hose.
