Now if we could just find an option for the fan clutch debacle, I may finally get a good night's sleep 😴 💤...

No Supercab= No deal...
But somebody should make a conversion... or figure a way to make Escape stuff work, like the much better tensioner design...

Silicone hose with 1/4" soft copper tubing inserted. Keeps its shape and won't rot. Works for me!
Thats a start , but I'd feel much better with a break away harness of some kind so it pulls apart close to the fan and doesn't rip and yank and twist the hell out of everything . Seems doable, but so did my drivesharft...

I guess it all depends on what you are trying to protect.

Me? I'm content to believe that the issue is Ford installing a cheap piece of hose to do the job, and that it simply decays over time, and falls apart.

I have yet to see any evidence of anything else involved.

I am sure that if the belt snapped it could wrap around almost anything, but so far only a few have reported this happening. I have seen far more hose failures than belts taking out the hose.

Typically, the tensioner bearing locks, or the tensioner spring breaks, and the failure cascades, breaking the mount flange, which lets the belt go whipping around everywhere under the hood at the engine front end.

So the way I see it, replacing the hose and tensioner, with mount points on the cylinder head instead of the timing cover eliminates 90% of the risk.

Tom Woods solved my driveshaft issue. My biggest concern left is the transmission, and I am working on that right now.

A few people have reported finding the deteriorating hose, with no other damage. So I think the catastrophic event where things fail and rips everything to shreds is extremely rare.
My hose always seemed fine, but I did reinforce it, not to the extreme of others. I simply took a piece of thick hanger wire, wrapped it around the mount on the engine side, formed it to follow along the hose, and zip tied it to the hose. If the hose gave way where it usually does at the nub on the engine side, it shouldn't go very far. But that's somebody else's problem now.

Im not convinced the hose really does all that much if/when one lockes up, the ones I saw would have taken out a new hose imo, I would just hate to see that much wiring damage if a simple connector could prevent it...

I agree, the catastrophic failure seems more than just the hose giving way. Unless over time, a completely unattached hose causes undue instability, wear, vibration and ultimately seizure. Then whammo!

When that hose gives way at both ends the cable is then supporting its own weight and the weight of the hose. It will eventually sag/dip enough to begin to touch the belt and/or rotating clutch fan components, which rub through the cable insulation or worse, grab it ripping it apart.

Go back and review the images.

I replaced the tensioner I was using from my Escape with a new aftermarket one. I used a Litens brand. It fit perfectly and is working great so far.
Made in China!

The hose is also the fan clutch anti-rotation device. When it breaks, the wires have to keep the fan clutch from rotating and they aren't capable of holding up to that.

I am well aware of the history of this failure. I said nothing untrue.

Looking at the Rock Auto site, I found that the Motorcraft belt tensioner BT-114 also fits the 2.3L engine of the 2019 Lincoln MKC.
