Battery swap and truck memory

I stopped by an AutoZone yesterday and had the battery checked out. It was good with a 48% charge. Since I rarely drive the truck, and with information here, I thought I'd start by trying to charge the battery. I expected the battery to be a lead acid battery, but found it to be a AGM. I hope I have as good luck as you. Thanks for the info, my fingers are crossed. I picked up a NOCO Genius 10.

Probably, but no harm...no foul. I can still use the charger to maintain the new battery.

100%. I have a couple Noco genius chargers and also a couple of their booster packs. Great products! I went through what you are experiencing with mine btw. The battery has been a problem since new with it going into sleep mode and certain features stopped working when cold. That problem got better after charging the battery, first for a couple weeks and then finally getting bad enough that it didn’t do anything anymore. When my “winter symptoms” became all the time symptoms I reset BMS without replacing the battery, it worked for a week. I then replaced the battery with a lead acid type. I have done this a few times for customers that had AGM batteries in other Fords with similar problems. I have had zero problems since doing this.

I was surprised the truck came with a lead acid bettery. But, I've never had a problem before the screen came up when I start it. It still starts liks a champ. From what I've read, the AGM batteries have to maintain a high percentage of charge (probably more then the 70% that Ford has engineered into BMS) to function correctly. Which goes back to me not using the truck as much as I should - to maintain the battery.
I'll try the charger and maintain the battery better. If I need a new battery, that's a second step. Then, I'll still use the charger to keep the battery in good condition.
I like simple, so 1 step at a time. As always, I appreciate the input.

My truck came with an AGM. I changed it to a lead acid one.

Sorry, I mis-spoke. The truck came with the AGM. I found this out when I went to AutoZone and had it tested. That was my surprise, I expected a lead acid battery. I'll try the charger to see how that does.

Just to clarify:
All Rangers come with a lead acid battery. The AGM is also a lead acid battery. The acid is contained in a glass mat. The other type of lead acid battery is a flooded lead acid type.

@ryyck I just replaced the stock OEM original battery in my 2019 Ranger with another Motorcraft OEM battery.

Why did I change it? The wife suggested it. We're in the mountains and don't want to get stuck out in the boonies with a dead battery.

I changed the battery out myself and it is as @Loweredon33s stated, the only thing that needed reset is the drivers side auto power down mode.

Even re-used the dust cover.

I spent way more time researching forums and studying owners manuals than actually changing the battery. I even wrote down all my pre-set radio stations before hand... but didn't lose any of them.

Don't overthink it... just do it.

That's good to hear. Since I didn't know what to expect, I wanted to understand all that I can expect and avoid the complications. Until the wife's batterty died, I didn't even know you had to register the battery with the car. So, I figured I would have to go through the same steps with the truck. I learned a lot. In the end, I'll get a charged battery and maybe not even have to replace it.

Well... 1st thing I do when I get in the truck is turn off the "Auto Start / Stop"... makes zero sense for a guy in Central Colorado. Pretty damn stupid of Ford to force such a stupid option onto their customers.

Technically, you are correct. From the charging/charger setting perspective, they are different. Use the appropriate setting on your charger.
