Auto start stop / MPG ?

Thanks for the perspective...I was thinking of trying to permanently disable this feature, not buying 100% into the personal savings aspect of it. I never really looked at the issue through a macro lens. Great point!

Start at the 6:20 mark. Simple and easy to disable it...No more A/S/S. ?

Oh, I don't think the ASS (kinds like that, don't you) was put on vehicles by a manufacturer just for us. The savings for the consumer is miniscule at best. But, adding that miniscule amount together with every other vehicle with ASS helps the manufacturers meet the governments CAFE standards. Of course that's just my useless opinion.

No I am not going to take back what I posted. I see the same type of attitudes on other forums too. People tend to get bent out of shape and belittle others that have different opinions on subjects being discussed.

I disabled mine and noticed about a 1 mpg difference where I was driving around town. I would’ve left it enabled , but it would turn off the engine when I stopped in the driveway and then 1/2 a second later, it’d start the engine when I put it into park. They fix that and I’ll turn it back on.

Turn off before putting in park. Sometimes when it happens I catch it and turn off first, sometimes I don't and it runs an extra half a second. Not something I'm going to worry about on an engine designed for it.

My wife's Subaru has the feature as well, and the Ranger is WAY smoother. Sometimes I barely notice the Ranger stopping and restarting, but the Subaru does the normal shakes like regular start. I'm pretty sure the Ranger has one of the higher end systems and the Subaru just has a stronger version of a regular starter.

One nice thing that the Subaru has is an estimate of fuel savings achieved by shutting off at idle. Depending on types of driving, it generally shows anywhere from half a gallon to a gallon total before we fill up and reset the counter. I figure it should be close for the Ranger, since the Subaru has a 2.5L NA4 to the Ranger's 2.3L turbo4, and you're not going to be on the turbo at idle.

So figure out what half a gallon to a gallon of savings with every tank means to you and decide if that's worth it. But I will say again the Ranger's stop/start is among the least obtrusive in any vehicle I've driven.

I’ll try turning it on again in forscan and try the turning the key of thing prior to going into park. Worst case is that I turn it back off again.

Gee, we have the 19 version and I turned it off a few times during some early miles. Not turned it off since and at 18k of millage, it doesn't bother me one iotta. Maybe I'm just insensitive??
