Auto stop/start disable?

I purchased an LED with a USB to plug into my rear console per a Gen5 member recommendation. I reconnected my BMS plug at the negative bat terminal (disconnected for 5 years) to inable my ASS. Driving around yesterday, the ASS is still disabled so I may have solved my problem BMS plugged in with no ASS!!!!!!!!!
You still need to raise your SOC target above 70 or 75. Otherwise your battery is never fully charged which leads to premature aging via sulfation. Your battery internal resistance will steadily climb leading to shortened battery life.

You still need to raise your SOC target above 70 or 75. Otherwise your battery is never fully charged which leads to premature aging via sulfation. Your battery internal resistance will steadily climb leading to shortened battery life.
And add an on-board desulfator.

You guys have a lot more knowledge about batteries than I do. I do know that the OEM battery is 6 years 2 mos. old (47K Miles) and works like it should with 5 years of that the BMS was unplugged. AGM batteries have a life of 5 to 7 years, I am betting my OEM lasts 10 more months to 7 years. So, in the real world the SOC target and everything else mentioned does not matter, or perhaps my OEM battery is a Super Battery!!!!

Just plug a night light into the plug on the rear of the center console and ASS is defeated. The plug does not remain on after the truck is shut off, so there is no battery drain. I’ve been doing this for 6 years and it’s fool proof and the easiest possible solution.
That doesen't work on newer models 2024

Your SOC setting was altered (for the better) the moment you unplugged the BMS sensor. And you were rewarded with a longer battery life.

I honestly attribute your battery's long life to having the BMS sensor unplugged. This is controversial, but I'll stand by my claim.

IMHO, Ford's BMS programming is aimed at eco-greenie objectives over battery life.

My 2020 Ranger has been unplugged most of it's life until I decided to run a few tests in an effort to examine what was going on with the BMS in different conditions.

I've concluded that as implemented, Ford's BMS is harmful to your battery's health.

You can simply unplug the BMS sensor and be fine, or you can modify several BMS settings, but I find the SOC target drifts lower over time. And that is not a good thing.

This could be from less tha optimal programming (bugs), or poor implementation strategies (such as assuming battery condition from time in service).

There is a bell curve for things such as service life, and I suspect Ford follows them, adjusting battery charge settings accordingly based upon age.

But for those of us who have our own opinions and strategies on how to maximize battery life, Ford's settings are inhibitors to achieving that goal.

My battery is the same age as yours, and it is very healthy. I figure I'll get another 3-4 years out of it before it fails. That's my past record on several other (admittedly older tech) cars.

I'm sticking to what has worked for me in the past until my results show me otherwise. And on my 2020 Ranger is still appears to be working.

Finally, why stress your battery even more by adding a light to fool the system?
The light may not draw very much power, but it all adds up in a modern car that eats massive amounts of electrical energy just to run.

I went through ForScan and turned off many of devices and "features" that I found for me to be unnecessary. For instsance, I don't like my headlights staying on after I shutdown my truck. I disabled bells and whistles. No more seatbelt nagging. I disconnected and isolated the Telematics Module. No more calling home to Ford with my data in the middle of the night. You get the idea... and my battery doesn't need to work so hard. and stays charged enough to slow sulfation.

Totally agree. I will add that when I traded in my '21 in April, it had about 78k miles on the original battery, no changes to SOC, BMS sensor still plugged in, and on-board desulfator most of those miles. I think it had lots of life left.
