Just had my oil changed at the local Ford Quick Lane. While there, I scheduled an appointment to address the coolant leak. The service advisor had the technician add dye to the cooling system, so one less trip and appointment. I suspect the EGR Valve and Cooler are going to be the issue, as I have no visible leaks, drips on the floor, sweet smell coming from the HVAC system, etc. I will keep you updated!

Frustrated . . . My coolant level continues to go down, yet the service department performed a pressure test - tested the pressure for an hour, also drove my Ranger 20 miles, and they could not find a leak. They topped off my recovery tank and said to monitor. They agreed that coolant is going "somewhere" but the pressure check did not show any leaks. Dye was added a couple weeks ago. So, I've lost almost over a quart of coolant. I brought up the EGR Valve/Cooler but my guess is that would have required too much digging for a leak at this point. Oh well . . . I have Ford's extended warranty so we'll see what happens next.

That’s gotta be frustrating David. Maybe they need some motivation. I recommend you give them a choice. Solve your coolant issue or solve this.

I know which one I would focus all my efforts on. ;)

I hope this gets worked out soon. 🤞

My wife's '17 Escape (1.5L EcoBoost) had a similar issue and the dealer's 'remedy' was the same - top off the expansion tank. That was until catastrophic engine failure on the way home from work that required a short block replacement. Worst part: if it were under 84k miles when it happened, it would have been fully covered (https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2022/MC-10213732-0001.pdf), instead it was all out of pocket. Expensive - but she loves the car and it has been paid off for years.

There was no white smoke or codes, but the end result was the same - coolant in the cylinders.

Solution to the indefinite integral: 2/5 x^(5/2) + 2/3x^(3/2) + 2x^(1/2) +C

Can't forget the "+C" for the constant. I am a high school math teacher!

Did they pressure test the Cap?
You would be amazed how often the cap is overlooked.
That was probably overlooked, which should have been one of the first things to check - especially since the cap is plastic now. It might be worth just replacing the cap, not that I like throwing money at potential problems!

Yeah, y’know, I ALWAYS forget the +C. Every…single…time. ;)

btw - I read your profile before I made that post David. 😀

Maybe someone should be telling automotive techs, “Can't forget the "+C" for the cap”. 🥁

if it continues to lose coolant - keep in mind that Ford's revolutionary EGR system for the ages featuring an EGR cooler has been know to leak and if not caught can do some major harm to your engine.
This!!! Many, many, 3.2 diesels have suffered premature deaths over here due to the crappy EGR cooler splitting a seam and dumping the coolant into the engine. It generally starts slowly if you top it up and it goes down again, definitely get this checked. If it lets go, and you're lucky, just a cracked or warped head, if you're unlucky, a holed piston and a cracked block. By the time the computer registers an overheat, the damage has already happened. This tends to happen around 100,000 Km or say about 60,000 miles.

Speaking of coolant, I want to change mine. Do the 5G's have a drain spigot/plug? My 4G had one.
What's the coolant capacity?
Yes, Drain Plug on radiator - Passenger Side - If I recall

Total Capacity = 11.6 Quarts per the Manual

My dumb question (please be gentle), what type of coolant should I use for my early 22 Ranger? The coolant color in the reservoir looks light lime color. Bought the truck in Texas but where I live now temp often goes -10℉. Should I use full concentration or diluted? Thanks in advance.

The concentrate bottles usually have the dilutions and temperatures to which they protect on the label.
