I have just under 49,000 miles on my 2021 Ford Ranger XLT 4 x 4. I was looking over everything under the hood like I do every couple weeks, and noticed my coolant recovery tank coolant level is one inch below the Minimum mark/line. I did not see any coolant leaks, and I have not noticed any white exhaust. Just wondering if anyone else has had any coolant issues.

Thanks,

David

Mine is a 21 with just over 25k. I had to had a pint or more. It’s normal to “lose” a little because it evaporates.

dang folks, homie just askin a question.

after three years with this truck I’ve seen considerable variance in that recovery tank. Sometimes it looks low, sometimes it looks high. I couldn’t tell you the rhyme or reason for it (I’m not mechanically inclined enough to know). I can only say that I’ve got nearly 65k miles on my 2019 and the ups and downs on the recovery tank have never caused an issue.

be sure to check and see if coolant is supposed to be checked on this truck cool or warmed up (I can’t remember).

Based on what you find there you can see if maybe you need to get some appropriate spec coolant and top off a bit.

Just checked mine, it is about 3/4" or so below min. 44k on the odo. Never added any, not sure if the dealer has.

I just added a full quart of coolant (Ford Motorcraft Pre-Mix) to bring the recovery tank back up to specs. I will definitely watch this over the next few weeks. I do not have any antifreeze on the floor, and did not see any leaks from coolant hoses, heater core, etc. Worried that it's leaking internally. Oil level is fine. Good thing for the extended warranty!!!

if it continues to lose coolant - keep in mind that Ford's revolutionary EGR system for the ages featuring an EGR cooler has been know to leak and if not caught can do some major harm to your engine.

David:

Same truck and issue with ~30,000 KMs. Took 3 trips to the dealer. 1st trip, could not find source, keep monitoring. 2nd trip source still not found, added dye to the system, keep monitoring. 3rd trip replaced the EGR Valve and EGR Cooler and that seems to have nipped the issue in the butt, for now. Currently at over 38,000 KMs. My Oil Analysis reports did not show any coolant in the oil.

This is my first Ecoboost and they sure seem to be real sensitive, with all of this emission crap on them.

at about 13k mine started losing a little then started losing more over a few weeks till I was having to carry a jug with me, i didnt see any spots on the ground or a sign of leaking either, it even got low enough once it over heated and reduced power... one day I was posting a picture of the bull bar mount and seen dripping, engine was hot so it was under pressure, I traced it back to the LOWER HOSE it was a pin prick hole in the bend, looked like it may have been hitting a sharp piece on the frame, you can see where I circled it in the picture
then TF fun started, I called the local dealer and they could not even order me a hose not even on back order! I said what if I bring it in under warranty, he said it will sit here till we can even find a way to order one, so I found misimoto sold them, I didnt order it on their site I called and they even only had 3 and ordered the damn after market one, its really nice though LOL like 7 ply carbon fiber reinforced it will be the last thing on this F***ING truck to fail hahaha it was however $184 shipped
having to worry about what might fail next, losing sleep and money, bad alignment after a lift .... this truck has been a pain in my ass from day one! but I like it Bahahaha

I've noticed my over flow tank was below minium at around 10k. I have not seen any leaks and my oil samples show no water in the oil. I'm at 55k now and no issues have appeared. I guess I should check the egr as stated in thist thread.
