Yes, it was one of it's loved features. It's hard to explain, but it's most important component was it's torque converter. It transmitted power based on RPM and load, and really didn't need multiple gears. In fact, in it's infancy it was a single speed transmission. But demand for lower end response made way for two gearings.
In everyday driving, you could hardly discern the shift.
I liked those old 2 speed Powerglide transmissions!

And here I bought the Ranger because in my mind I said, "The 10R80 is the same transmission used in the 450HP Raptor. It should be rock solid behind a 4 cylinder."

Famous last words.

Going to look at a ZR2 tomorrow. A friend is a Chevy salesman and said he can get me a good deal on it. The dealer offers a free lifetime powertrain warranty.

Of course, this right after I bought a ton of stuff for this truck.

But after the last drop off for HVAC issues and transmission issues and another "No Problem Found" (no, they didn't do the pressure test indicated in the TSB because they didn't have the equipment), I am honestly about done with this thing. Upon leaving the dealer I had cold air on the driver side and heat on the passenger side. And it slammed into 4th gear.

It's becoming like a bad girlfriend. I hate it one day and love it the next.

In my past experience with bad girlfriends, the only lasting solution was a different girlfriend.
I have an actuator going on my HVAC system. It is constantly clicking. Took it into Ford of North Scottsdale and they gave me the "No Problem Found" line too. I guess I will have to wait until it completely fails.

Let us know what you think of the Colorado. If something happens to my Ranger, I would seriously look at a Colorado. I like the way they look and since I'm 6'4", the Colorado has excellent drivers' legroom. Much better legroom than my Ranger has.

As a 2019 lariat owner, I've said before how problem free my truck was. I became paranoid after reading all the posts on this trans. the only issue I had was when cold, ambient air below 45*, and I went light throttle out my driveway up a hill, the trans would shift from 1 to 3 and die, like a massive old school turbo lag. 47k on it then. Brought to dealer who could not duplicate, but started the process, clean valve body, next visit they did the next step, 3rd visit they rebuilt trans. i was told all new parts except the case. Been 4k so far and it's a dream. Light to medium throttle from start shifts 1,2,3 etc. Never ever did that before, should have been from start. Only complaint is the "lugging" when in higher gears at low speeds. Really only happens when I'm on the dirt road home. Not sure what they did with trans, but I like it...

I don’t know what drives the advertisements on this site but your post and this advertisement right after it cracked me up:

anyway, I understand your feelings. I do think Ford’s last couple of years with the 10R80 have improved with the redesigned parts on the F-150, and everyone says the 10R60 on the newest Ranger is excellent. They also snuck in a brand new 2.3L engine on the 2025 Ranger and added dual injection to clean the valve build up, but didn’t advertise it.

I’m leery of GM as well. Sometimes I think it’s a tad unnecessary to spazz about GMs data harvesting history (axing Apple CarPlay and such in favor of their own spy programs), but something about how they went about it irked me.

that leaves me either sticking with Ford or going to Toyota or Nissan. I wonder if Honda will ever get serious with the Ridgeline as it’s a solid engine platform.

anyway, good luck with your decisions!
I have 3000 moles on my 2024 ranger, nothing like my gen 5 Ranger, whole new truck, i am so much happier with it. Wider longer, surprisingly smooth, smooth shifting, i have fallen in love with the ranger again. Good choice if you stay with the ranger still.

I tow and mine went out at just under 40k miles. Spilled fluid everywhere and slammed multiple shifts really hard. I don’t know if towing more will help, but it seems to “firm up” the shifts which may reduce clutch slippage.
We tow heavy (6000 lbs) and had the transmission replaced at 18000 miles
yeah I was careful to use the word correlation and note that I’m guessing anyway. Dang. Sorry yall had to deal with that crap.

GFs dad has a 2019 Chevy Colorado. He is an old dude, so no rough stuff with this truck, no towing.
Transmisson went out about a month after the warranty ran out.

GM covered something like 80% of the cost. I was shocked and impressed.

I went from the bad focus DCT to the bad ranger 10 speed! At this point I’ll deal I’ll take a two speed that works.
The DCT fiasco cost Ford $10,000,000 in fines from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) for "unconscionable" treatment of it's customers. It also virtually killed Ford small cars sales in Australia.

Was it as smooth as that name makes it sound? Only have been in vehicles post 1990. I truly wish manuals were still offered on most vehicles besides sports cars. Might even learn to drive a semi truck 18 speed if that is what it takes
Well I can't comment on Chevy's but that transmission was fitted to GM's Holden cars here in Australia in the late 60's early 70's before it was replaced by the locally made trimatic 3 speed. Yes they were pretty smooth, but a bit disconcerting to drive, because they would they would rev the guts out of the engine before they changed up and then it would drop right back to the bottom of it's power band again. But it was often hard to tell which gear you were in. They might have worked better on a V8 but here they were linked to an asthmatic 186ci pushrod six. That six however, was renown for reasonable economy and going almost forever with minimal maintenence.

My dad had a 2013 Colorado and the auto dies, luckily still under warranty, initially GM tried to wriggle out of it , but my old man being a retired mechanical engineer, would have none of it and eventually they replaced it with a new one. This was quite an issue over here it seems GM did a poor job of matching up the auto to the 3.0 litre Isuzu diesel used in many Colorado's over here. The torque convertors it seems were still set up for the V6 petrol engine and the extra torque of the diesel would tear them up sending crap into the box and killing it too.
