Hate the “man in the box”. It’s as much their fault for being dishonest as it is the General Manager’s or owner’s fault. The pressure and incentive to get the sale is what fuels this behaviour. The commission that the dealer and finance person share is simply too attractive for them to miss out on.

My Guelph Volkswagen experience - after the dance with the sales guy and Saturday being the finance guy’s day off ?, I used the amount owing from my bill of sale to get a draft from my bank. When I showed up the following Saturday, I was handed an “updated” bill of sale with a tire warranty, nitrogen in the tires, wheel locks, and the infamous admin fee. All had been added by the finance guy during the week. ? Wow!

It was a brazen attempt that failed and it cost them some nitrogen, and a set of wheel locks, not to mention any future purchases, referrals, service, warranty, or recall work.

This behaviour is why we have a “window sticker pricing” law in Ontario - the advertised price must include everything that comes with the vehicle before tax - the window sticker is considered advertising. Extended warranties are treated separately.

1. Ford will send you a survey about the sales experience. Flame them in the survey, especially after taking the strange approach of telling you that the vehicle they just sold you is so poorly made..
2. Ford extended warranties are available at a bargain from Flood Ford and @Zach@granger. I think they're worth the investment if you're going to own the truck long term. You have until the original factory warranty expires to add one.
3. Turbos of yesteryear were finicky and were almost certain to fail long before other engine components. Turbos made in the past 20 odd years are as reliable as any other component.
Thank you for the mention! We're happy to help answer any questions on this. Just email [email protected]

How about dem old Dodge Rebellion commercials - "the dodge rebellion wants you". I could find a better use for her pumper skills .

Love that ad, no seatbelts, no headrest, no tinted glass. =)

Makes me appreciate my experience. The finance guy just handed me a tablet with all the options (with 3 preselected) and said drag to the left to add and drag to the right to remove. I removed all the options and there was no push back. I almost wish there was a little pushback so I could break out probability of failure cost analysis. The only negative I had was he started with a 4.XX% loan through a bank. I asked him about the 0.9% listed on the ford site. He was like oh you want Ford Credit and brought out a matrix of credit score vs loan length for interest rates. Since I was putting down 30k, I went with 36 months @ 0%. Also since I was putting down so much he said he couldn't take a personal check and I needed to drive to the credit union for a certified check

EDIT: I'll say that I had a factory order. From the time I arrived at the dealership I was done with the transaction, minus bringing back the certified check, in about an hour and a half. That included test driving with the sales guy and a 30 minute wait before heading back to the finance office.

Still waiting
I just picked up my truck from the dealer on Saturday. This is only the second new car ive bought, the first one was a Subaru and i had terrible experience with the dealer on warranty claims etc. I resisted the finance guys sales of all the ford protect and extended warrantees telling him i needed time to research them and that if i needed them I would make a purchase before the factory warranty was up. He didn't like that and brought in the "guy who knows trucks really well". He tried to come in and tell me i needed it, that the turbo is a ticking time bomb and that ill need to replace it. I laughed and said well maybe Im buying the wrong truck and I should reconsider and honesty if I didn't have confidence in the truck or hadn't waited 4 months I would have walked out that moment.

That said anyone turbo go boom here?

The turbo is the only thing that worries me on this truck. A few people here have had issues recently and in the bronco forum. If it doesn't become a bigger problem it just could've been a bad batch. But in today's environment you could be waiting for parts if your the unlucky. This doesn't mean people should pressure u and act like an asshat.

If the turbo blows, just swap for an LS.

Edit:
But seriously, those guys are a pain. I just checked how much it was
as I was curious & up here it's like 4/5/6k for 6/7/8 yr coverage.
Insane.

My finance guy wasnt bad, did a little scare about touchscreens going bad and how expensive they were but didn't push it too much.

Unfortunately extended warranties are expensive as a florida resident due to state law like 2-3 times more.

If a dealer had done that to me op I would have walked out right there unless I really needed a vehicle even then I might just go to find the nearest Tacoma for sale out of spite

If you want extended Warranty look at buying Flood Ford Insurance. Most people in here seem to recommend them. They were significantly cheaper than what my dealership offered me on the way out.

Speaking of my dealer finance guy never tried to tell me I was driving away with a ticking time bomb. He offered. I said 'No, I need to think about it.' He gave me the (expensive) deets & I came here to see. Others recommended the above resource. Still haven't bought it yet because I'm trying to see what I put on the truck in a year to estimate coverage for future years.

Turbos are time bombs eh. This country runs on the back of 18 wheelers that I am pretty sure all run turbos. Don't see them exploding all the time.

He must watch Scotty Kilmer on YouTube alot. That dude also hates smaller displacement turbo DI engines.
Kilmer is such a turd. His videos are so click-baity in how they're presented. He's a grumpy old guy who has strong, and often unfounded, opinions about vehicles without offering much in the way of evidence. I was happy to block the channel when I did. Plenty of other solid car & truck channels out there without the old man snark. The only grumpy old man snark I like is AvE or some of my BBQ channels.

The N2 thing gets me. I work with N2 gas for a living. A ~700 lbs 230 PSI tank on wheels of medical grade N2 is ~$60. They charge $100-200 in some cases for the tire N2 fill that nobody asked for. You can't tell me that its 1) More than that 700 lbs tank's worth 2) Its higher quality 3) It does anything substantial worth the cost of admission.

When I bought my Ranger, the finance guy that sold the now canceled Extended Warranty told me that I didn't need the warranty for the drive train, but rather it was important to cover all the electronic stuff in the truck.

My brother actually bought a ranger before I did. The finance guy tried selling him the extended warranty on his lease since it was 15k a year and not 12k miles. Today is his last payment and he only has 20k miles.

He also tried the sales pitch of the turbo engine going early actually saying it had “two turbochargers”.

My favorite was when he pulled out a newsday article about how bad New York roads are and said the truck has low profile tires he should consider it. Like come on. Don’t they even try to know the product they are selling?

Just a note, the dealer had to replace my turbo before it even got delivered. Engine light came on during their inspection. It would have been under warranty anyway, but glad it happened before I picked it up. I did, BTW, go ahead and get the extended from Granger. That was very reasonably priced.

You were spot on to tell these morons that perhaps you should reconsider and purchase another vehicle.

The "back office", aka as the finance guy is where the dealership actually makes the $$$, hard selling extended warranties, paint and upholstery sealants, bogus "anti-theft" glass etching, so on and so forth.

Tell me, did they try to sell you left hand threaded light bulbs also? They most certainly would if they could...

I always cringe when I have to go talk to the finance manager.

My parents are in their 80’s and recently bought an Acura RDX.
They asked me to help them buy the SUV because they hardly ever buy new. This was their first new car in 30 years. When we went in the managers office it was 3 o’clock and I knew it was time to put the boxing gloves on. He started out on extended warranties but i shut that down pretty quickly. So he stuck to the tire and wheel warranty. He was selling the warranty for $2499. I told him I could buy 4 rims for $899 online and the tires were $225 a piece. He laughed at me. I was pissed. So I pulled up his online store and showed it to him. He shut his mouth after that and finished the sale. Would not even make eye contact with me. WIN!

I did start using my credit union to buy cars and that helps not have to deal with the finance manager as much, too.
Which credit union, if you don’t mind saying?

Can you imagine that Dodge Darts were considered "compacts" back in the day?

The wheelbase and overall size of them are probably comparable to a new Honda Accord or Toyota Camry which are considered "full size" in this day and age.

I'm guessing a Sedan DeVille or Lincoln Town Car of yore would be considered a semi in today's parlance...
