I'm looking to improve mpg on my 2wd '21 XLT (i've posted on here about its terrible 18 mpg highway mileage, and tried a dozen things to fix it with all your help, with no success)

Is there an aftermarket exhaust / downpipe combo that's just as quiet as stock? I live in a quiet neighborhood, and also generally just don't like the sound of a loud exhaust :D
I might also be using the wrong terms...i'm just learning about exhausts for the first time...

I read some threads like this one that talks about borla and magnaflow, and downpipes in this thread, but it wasn't clear what the conclusions were for what's the best combination for increasing mpg while keeping stock nois.

I would just leave it stock. Yes I like quiet also. I put an x-flow magnaflow on an 05 F150 what a mistake never again. We towed campers more back then. it was awful to listen to that drone noise. I laugh when I hear loud cars/trucks. They are also cracking down on that around here. Giving out more tickets. But it's the extreme dumb ones you know what I mean.

Also I did not seem to get any performance from this loud exhaust system just more noisy. This was Fords 5.4 eng...

I want more power I will just go back for an F150 3.5 Ecoboost. It was a beast and stock. There is no reason to do anything to that motor. Just enjoying driving a smaller truck and wife likes it more room in the garage. We both park in a garage. LOL We have a three car but that other is for my play space. Her 23 Rav4 Hybrid takes up no space. if I did not own a tractor and a shooting range to maintain I would own another Rav4 Hybrid. That thing is awesome.

What speed do you drive at on the highway? How much weight is in the truck? What tire pressure? Do you lock out any gears? Where do the revs sit when you are highway driving? In the trucks manual it even talks about how at highway speeds going even marginally faster will use significantly more fuel. So if you are cruising about at 80 or 85 you are gonna drink gas vs going 65 to 70. I am on 35's and my mpg is right around yours for highway, but I draft a lot and sit right around 75 to 79mph

From my experience swapping intercooler charge pipes - if your goal is better MPGs - don't spend anything on the exhaust. Get a CVF cold side charge pipe instead.

It will feel like the power is down but the mileage will go up.

I would presume there are tunes available to improve efficiency as well.

I'm also assuming you've 'corrected' the onboard computer that calculates mileage.

I have an SPD down pipe with a Borla performance exhaust and I now get 22 mpg rather than 20.
That combo sounds loud as crap

Is the borla piping 3" or 2.5"?
I was tempted with the idea of a new downpipe but not sure if its worth the squeeze making the truck too loud, combined with people posting info on how it gets so hot. Not a big fan of those exhaust wraps.

I have 2.5" but Borla sells both. It's not that loud and the performance is notable. Add the SPD and it gets really loud (resonator highly recomended) and even more performance. SPD also sells 2.5" and 3". It does get hot but I only notice it with early morning steaming of the lower portion of my front windshield.

Just a few posts above in this thread, I linked to a post of mine with details. Check out that post.

Yep, i'm pointing to that. Isn't that the best way to go...?
Or should I be posting the same details over again each time someone asks, when I can just link to a post that summarizes it nicely? I'm confused :D
