I'm looking for a line on some aftermarket skid plates/bash plate (I had to drop the FX4 pkg to get the truck--long story) and some real (attach to the frame, not the body) rock rails if anyone has that information? Thanks!

You can also order the skid plates from the FX4 package and put them on your truck. I've already ordered mine and plan to put it on as soon as I can.

I took advantage of 2 shrockworks group buys.

I can't attest to the skid plate durability yet, but the thickness and craftsmanship is excellent. I did bounce off a rock with the sliders and you can't even tell I hit them.

How do the Shrockworks skids affect access for the engine drain plug?

You have to remove this skid plate..

Pretty terrible unfortunately, I'm sure for a change soon but I'll probably pull that skid plate
What's terrible? No different than a Tacoma, you have to pull a full width skid plate on them also.

What are we missing?

Not saying terrible as in any different than any other skids and certainly better than the larger skids, just a generic comment on how easy it would be to get to the oil drain plug. I was trying to be facetious, but don't think internet shows that well

Less terrible if you just put in a fumoto valve and route the hose somewhere out of the way, and then just pull it down when you need to do the change.

2 reasons I'll never use a Fumoto valve.
  • There is nothing (like a key that's used on mag wheels) to prevent somebody from just flipping it and draining all your oil out.
  • It threads into the drain hole, therefore it's inside diameter is smaller and it won't drain as fast.
I gotta an entire toolbox of tools.. removing the drain plug isn't a big deal.
