  2. Price of used 5g Rangers

The Ford dealer I had bought mine from had ZERO inventory. They had Chevy Corvettes on the showroom floor to take up space. I ended up selling my '20 STX FX2 with 20k miles back to the dealer for $28.5k and they didn't want the camper shell. Sold that the next day for $1k. They had it listed...
  3. California Mishimoto Catch Can kit, new, unopened

Not sure. Check the mishimoto site. I never installed it and mine wasnā€™t equipped with a cover so it wasnā€™t a concern.
  4. California Sold: Mishimoto Catch Can kit, new, unopened

Never got around to installing this on my Ranger before selling it. $180 shipped. UPDATE - price lowered to $150 shipped. SOLD
  5. Sky high car prices made me sell my Ranger.

ā€¦ok it didnā€™t make me, but it made it too enticing. I loved my ā€˜20 FX2 but with car prices the way they are and low inventory (my dealer had Chevy Corvettes on the showroom floor) I couldnā€™t resist. I got my truck on D-plan pricing and a 1.5yr later and 20k miles I only lost $1k. Iā€™ll own one...
  6. Skid Plate Options

I have the 589, and it does have access to the engine drain plug. No ā€œpanelā€ to remove, itā€™s an access hole.
  7. Ex Ford Engineer Tears down Evs

I really like Sandy's insights and observations. Having been a mechanic for over 20 years, it it gives insight as to the mind of an engineer who is looking at things from a production standpoint. There's plenty of things he's said that I'm not on board with because it seems to ignore service...
  8. When did Ford start using metric?

Specifically I was referring to the aluminum torque to yield bolts. Single use, soft, and easy to break. Mostly used in applications that use special aluminum alloys that can react to steel bolts over time.
  9. When did Ford start using metric?

Hereā€™s a fun podcast that dealt with the Metric system. As to why the US took so long to to adopt, weā€™ll just blame the French ?
  10. When did Ford start using metric?

First vehicles I worked on that had torx was some late ā€˜80s GM products. Now theyā€™re everywhere including construction hardware. Watch out for the external torx on BMW and Mercedes that are aluminum bolts. Those are fun. What amazes me most is how long it took domestic manufacturing to...
  11. Fox 2.0 coil over adjustment

H frame hydraulic press is whay I ended up using, with a bearing splittler on the bottom of the coil spring spacer. I've used strut spring compressors on other cars, but the close spacing of the fox coils made it difficult to fit a typical spring compressor that I had.
  12. Fox 2.0 coil over adjustment

Once I compressed the spring and loosened the pinch bolt on the collar, it spun very easily.
  13. Fox 2.0 coil over adjustment

I installed the Ford version of the Fox 2.0 on my 2wd, as they came out of the box. It had to have been over 3ā€ when installed. I had so little down travel that they would top out harshly. I later removed them, compressed the springs in a press, and ended up lowering the collars. See my post at...
  14. Mishimoto R&D: Ranger 2.3L Performance Air Intake

I was speaking of California specifically. I have a current smog inspectors license and am current on those requirements. I double checked, and its still 8 model years old exemption for current owners, 4 years exemption for transfer of ownership. Don't throw away your old intake, should you...
  15. Mishimoto R&D: Ranger 2.3L Performance Air Intake

Currently thereā€™s an 8 model year smog exemption from new. If your paying the ā€œsmog abatement feeā€ on your registration you wonā€™t be needing a smog until at least 2028. The only exception to that is initial registration from out of state.
  16. Does FX2 include fuel tank skid plate?

No venting but I really donā€™t see it being needed. It keeps good airflow from the radiator area, over the oil and transmission pan. Less turbulent air flow is a good thing in my opinion. At the front it simply protects the factory air diffuser that covers the radiator. A bonus is that the...
  17. After market Oil Filter's and such...FYI

All subjective, personal experience. Take it with a grain of salt. Let me say this, ā€œnever had one alleged engine failure due to the filterā€...that you know of. Just clarifying. Having been a mechanic for over 20 years Iā€™ve seen a lot. Thereā€™s plenty of failures that happen that donā€™t get...
