Adding Adaptive Cruise Control?

I did a quick search and didn't find anything on this, so I thought I would start a thread.

Has anyone added or attempted to add Adaptive Cruise Control to their truck? I have a MY2019 XLT. Do not currently have ACC, just standard CC, but would like to add it. I have AEB and Lane Keeping, so I have the camera up by the rear view mirror. I do not have the ACC radar sensor in the lower bumper. Is it as simple as adding the sensor and making some Forscan changes or is there more to it than that? Just started thinking about this and need to check into what the sensor and bracket costs and if the connector is there or if a harness is needed.

You'd need the front radar sensor, its bracket, a different wiring harness for the bumper, a new steering wheel, and some Forscan changes, I believe. It would get pricy fast. The sensor and bracket alone around are close to $600. Maybe could get the steering wheel from a wrecked one, but the front end would likely be toast which would probably negate the rest.

edit: I take some of that back. You might be able to just replace the switches in the steering wheel. I'm not entirely sure. Tasca Parts

The sensor and harness I can understand the price, but $160 for a sheet metal bracket is a bit much. As far as what they are showing for the steering wheel. Mine has the cruise control buttons on the lower left side, where the illustration shows nothing. Looks like the buttons are different for regular and adaptive Cruise so May need to change buttons on that side.

I agree it would be nice. Very doable, just have to justify the cost. A little pricey unless you get the parts from a wreck.

It is very nice, I just made a trip from Southern California to Montana and return and this made the drive much more relaxed.

Can also be a little frustrating on the highway when you come up behind a slow poke and suddenly realize you are going 5 or 10 MPH slower than the speed limit and are getting passed by everyone in the fast lane. You still need to pay attention to traffic around you. I would like to add it but not at the cost of the parts new. I give it just a nice not a need.

I have my truck exactly as I want except for that but it it sounds like it may be cheaper and less aggravation to just buy one that has it already.

I doubt I could get the deal I got on mine again.

I gave up on the idea. Decided it wasn't worth the cost and agrivation.

I had ACC on my MDX 10 years ago. I enjoyed the novelty of it the first year, than never used it again. My Ranger has it, but I have never used it.

I don’t commute and live in a low traffic area, so my driving needs may be totally different than many drivers.

We have it on our 2013 Honda Accord, and that is one of the reasons I went with a ranger. We use it on all road trips. Now if I could get autostop/start on our Accord I would be very happy.

I would love to start scanning junk yards. Junk Prices are really coming down now that the population has grown.

I did not compile a list of parts. Just did a quick look and saw the cost of the sensor, bracket, wiring harness, steering wheel buttons and who knows what else I decided I could live without the adaptive part. Now rain sensing wipers I may dig deeper into.

Lee...Just saw your thread. Curious if you have ever driven one of these new vehicles with ACC? I have it on my 2020 Hyundai Kona Ultimate. It has a way fancy pants radar system with pedestrian monitoring...lol. Anyway...I personally HATE the ACC! My system is really neat....you have pretty detailed control of the distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. The big issue for me is when you are tooling down the interstate (which I do a lot) and your trying to stay out of the left lane and Mr. Troopers attention..it's slows you down every time you encounter a slower driver up ahead, so you have to stay in the left lane with a clear path in front of you all the time if you want uninterrupted driving. It's a REAL pain in the tail for me....lol. Just my opinion, I just wanted you to know what your getting into before you get in too deep ($$) on that. I definitely love the fact that I don't have ACC on my Ranger Lariat but hey...I've been known to be weird.
