It’s positively foolish to think a 2.5l na engine In a fusion should have the same oil change interval as a 2.3l di turbocharged engine in a truck which both are using the same oil.
Maybe but then again the engineers over at Ford make more money than me and spent way more money then both them and myself make combine to figure this stuff out.

10,000 is way too much... tested and proven, no matter what the oil life meter says and no matter what ford says.

Go read the oil test poll. (Looking for fuel in oil but there's more to learn) Everyone's oil is beginning to break down and lose its viscosity around the 5K mark.

My oil life meter seems to work. It was asking me to change around only 4500 miles and by 6000 it was really reminding me. She never would have let me go 10,000. I think it said only 3% oil life remained when I changed at 6000. The oil life monitor is a very sophisticated idiot-light, and I feel guilty for waiting so long to change my damn oil in the first place. Why be cheap about oil and filters? Maybe the car manufacturers need these long oil change intervals for some environmental reasons?

I'll throw gas (or oil) on the fire lol

My wife's '14 CR-V is just cresting 65k miles. Runs like a champ and she never reset the trip mileage so the 28.5mpg is the overall lifetime. Only ever takes it to the dealer for work, which has been scheduled maintenance only. Something about I get a get a crazy look and start modifying anything I see...which is true.

Oil life meter equates to 10k miles between changes. Like clock work. She does have the techs obtain oil so I can send to Blackstone for records. Everything comes back perfect. They even say it could go 2-3000 more miles.

It is a different animal, but those intervals are spot on for what Honda recommends for the vehicle. So no, 10k is NOT too much for a vehicle. The days of 5k dino oil in my pushrod 5.8L are gone. But doing it sooner doesn't hurt anything, so go crazy!

That's the whole point. A honda CRV might be completely fine on 10-12K intervals with quality oil, but it's not very big, not very heavy, not DI, not turbocharged, and not pushing 300HP from a sewing machine motor.

Do what you're comfortable with once again, engines are expensive, oil is pretty cheap.

My wifes EX civic turbo 1.5 DI engine calls out 10k and thats what we do with it. No issues and no stumbles at 58k. Now the CVT transmission...thats another critter...I am a bit more anal about doing the fluids on it lol

Speaking of auto manufacturers recommendations. Years ago I purchased one of those Chrysler/ Mitsubishi mini-vans which had 7500 recommended oiled change milages. I was driving lots at that time and when I finally brought it in, had nearly 7k miles on it. Highway miles, not short trips. The dealership said the oil was terrible and I shouldn't have waited that long. I told him "its still below the recommended oil change mileage" and the service manager said sometime to the effect. The people at Chrysler don't know squat!

Oil analysis from multiple companies always suggested oil change interval could be extended.
not that it should be extended. oil degrades quickly after a certain point. 5,000 miles for me with full synthetic. I spent a lot of money- to me- on this truck and little things to make it last longer is a win

In my Escape, I change oil at about 5-6000mi, and the oil life index still shows 23-38% life. the manual calls for 7500-10,000 intervals for normal driving:oops:, which I do: no towing, and I'm usually the only person in the car. 6k is about all I can stand to go. I grew up with flatheads and filing down points and 1,000mi. oil change intervals. Kendall used to brag they were "The 2000 mile oil."

I have 12270 miles on my 2019, I changed the oil at 7500 miles, using Mobil 1 and Motorcraft oil and air filters. I also rotated the tires, which I will do every oil change. I will change the cabin filter every other oil change.

It's algorithm can take some of that into account. You have an FX4 and I assume some offroad. It has no way of knowing that you are on a dusty offroad trail or driving thru a mall parking lot. I don't believe any of us here are stretching it too far.
I would think if your concerned about getting dirt/dust in your oil, your doing it wrong.

Just sayin'.

Ford recommends changing the oil within 500 miles or two weeks of the Oil Change message appearing in the info display but not to exceed one year or 10,000 miles. Seems reasonable. Sounds like I’ll be getting an oil change once a year.

.... I can't imagine that Ford would be recommending intervals which are too long given that they could make more money with shorter intervals. Thoughts?
Since I do all my maintenance myself, I rotate the tires and change the oil every 4,000 miles. It's on the lift to rotate tires.. changing the oil too is eazy peazy.

My thoughts however would be:
Direct Injection and a turbocharger means it's prudent to change the oil more often if you plan on keeping the truck longer than the 5 year 60,000 mile warranty period.​
If you trade vehicles in less than 5 years... follow the oil life monitor.​

Good point. maybe the OEMs are getting a little nudge from the EPA about oil filters that get land filled and, fewer oil changes, the less energy and crude oil used to refine new oil.
