Hey guys. I have a 2019 FX4 Ranger Lariat with 47k that I have modified. Ill just talk about what I did to the rear since that's where my issue is. I installed ICON 2.0 reservoir shocks and put in a Eibach 1" block under the leaf springs years ago. Im running stock 18x8 rims with 1" spacers (yes everything is tight and aligned) on Cooper Rugged Ridge 255/70's. Recently I have noticed a loud rattle that seems to come from the driver side tire/suspension area. It only does this when driving over sharp bumps, washboards, etc then stops. This doesn't happen rock crawling, during low speed suspension travel or even high speed dips in the street. I have completely pulled everything off the vehicle. I removed the spare and even the spare rubber mounts and taped up the chain. I zip tied anything loose and tightened every suspension component (shock mounts etc). I have an RCI Rack with an IKamper 2.0 and high lift jack (yes I took off the jack) that stays on all season.

This is driving me crazy. Any ideas what this could be? I have not taken it in anywhere yet as I do all the work myself usually. I was thinking maybe the leaf springs are shot since I am pretty hard off road? I was thinking about ordering the OME 1.7 spring kit. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you changed out the leaf springs? I would rule out a loose exhaust system if it's on the driver's side.

No they are the factory leaf. I checked the exhaust also and everything is ok there. Thank you.

Have you checked the leaf spring to axle U bolts for being tight? Are the brake pad and anti-rattle clips properly installed?

Yes I've checked the U bolts but not the anti rattle clips. I will try that. Thanks again.

Mentioned this before in an earlier thread. On my 2003 F150 I had a noise I would bet everything on that it was the bed or rear suspension. Turned out to be front sway bar bushings noise is like water problem is not always where you hear or see it. Just a thought I learned my lesson to look out side the box sometimes.

Your right. Ill check the front just to be sure. Thank you. Might as well eliminate everything I can.

My first thought was as @Bob902 mentioned above. Jacking up the rear by the frame usually exposes this problem. With your setup, it sounds like you could use a multi-pack leaf upgrade anyway. Aftermarket options are good. Tremor leafs might be to your liking also.

I had a similar problem a few years ago. I spent hundreds of dollars in diagnostic fees taking it to several different shops, but nobody could find anything wrong. I even took it to a suspension specialist who took everything apart and went through every single nut and bolt. He said everything looked fine and he didn’t see anything that was worn, loose, etc…

Oddly enough, after I wrecked my truck and had the front end rebuilt, it stopped. Tells me something definitely WAS loose but nobody could figure it out.

Sounds similar to my experience with my 2019 Ranger. At first I thought it was a shock absorber sticking. Turns out the right side leaf spring forward attachment was fractured from rust.

Sounds like I need to replace the springs anyways. Most of its life its been garaged and has been spent in Wyoming where is ultra dry but it has been through many water crossings.

If you like your truck now, upgraded replacement springs have been a top improvement on this forum.

You'll be happier after you do it... maybe happier than adding the tailgate damper.

Oh the damper was one of the first things lol. I briefly looked this morning at the leaf mounts and didnt see anything but its on the ground. OME 1.7 kit looks like what i may do with the weight i carry. Im assuming its an easy install? Ive done all the suspension including front ICON UCA and coilovers myself. I love my truck and its paid off with 47k so Im definitely gonna fix it, its just frustrating to not know.
