Worth the time/money? Doubtful.


Why not just wait for the 6g?

The cost of 2.7 can't be far from the cost of a Coyote. And a Coyote, while being more labor intensive wouldn't be THAT much more work.

If you're gonna spend the coin to swap in a 2.7, you might as well go all the way.

I'd say yes, but I'm not sure I'd want to as it's a complicated motor with all of the accessory wiring and piping.

They're Coyote swapping these things in Australia! I'd rather go that route!

Yeah, it's not to my style either. But I've seen some really nice Coyote swapped Ranger from Oz and NZ that I'd love to have here!

This is one of those instances, where going out and buying what you want, makes more sense than pouring money under the hood. Wait about 6 months, and you'll be able to buy a Ranger in the USE with a V6 Eco-Boost. I don't think it will be a 2.7L, but the 3.0L like in the Explorer ST.

Just wanted to ask. Is swapping a 2.7L possible into the ranger?
Why?, If you really need another 15HP, just run premium fuel or buy a tune!
The 2.7L is a great engine, but the 2.3L is also, and is a great match for the Ranger.

An extra turbo, an extra head, two extra cam shafts and two extra pistons... for what? Bragging rights?
Near as I can see you add something like 2 extra pounds per HP.

If you think the 6G Ranger will be available for purchase in 3 months you're nuts.

In principle, you're right. But it'll be a MUCH longer wait. If '23 is even the 6G, you MIGHT see them for purchase in a year. I'm thinking a year and half as as '24 is more likely, though.

My buddy here in MT has a shop that specializes in 4bt swaps. He said when the 2.3 goes to pasture and I still have the truck he is ready for it. Haha. I'd love to have a diesel in the ranger but how cost effective is it going to be in the long run is my thought.

The maintenance is much more expensive on a diesel. Does not make any sense to me for anyone who does not tow a lot. Also the emissions can be very expensive when something goes wrong.
