100,000 miles and dealer service

I'm sitting at 96 and some change. Zero issues with the truck, including the transmission.
I've said it a million times. I old no brand loyalty, don't name my trucks and try and move them down the road at the 100k mark.
I went to the local dealer I use for my oil changes and asked for some pricing on 100,000-mile maintenance items.

Prices are estimates, per the service guy.

I am still on the original brakes and battery as well. Rear brakes are a little "thin".
Rear brake job around $500.00

Everyone's favorite, the transmission. Hold on to your hats here.
This dealer only does a fluid flush. I asked about the filter. He said there is just screens in there and the flush cleans them out.
Price $350.00

Coolant flush - Price $240.00

Spark Plugs - around $400.00

And a cabin air filter - $80.00 (I just bought and installed an amazon special for less than $30.00 and maybe 5 minutes time)

There you have it.
If you have the skills, tools, a little know how and the space. Do what you can.
Shop around, find a small local shop with a good reputation.

I find the oil change a wash. I live in an apt. Would have to make multiple trips for my tools and dumping the oil.
Hence, why I have the dealer do it.

I have my local shop (Brakes Plus) do all my maintenance even my oil changes. I know the manager and most of the guys there so I trust them to do it right. So far in the 5 years I've been going there (with both my Rangers) they've done a great job at a very reasonable price. Unless it's warranty work I've always tried to stay away from the dealers and use a good local shop. I just don't like do anything myself anymore beside detailing it. That I'll never stop doing but I love doing it and find it relaxing and therapeutic.

$400.00 dollars to replace the plugs is crazy expensive. I replaced them at around 100k miles it couldn’t have taken more than 30min. I’m currently at 109k miles. All I have done maintenance wise is replace the plugs once. Around 80k miles replaced the transmission fluid, filter, add LubeGuard Platinum and added the Fitz Stick. Air filter and Cabin Air Filter yearly. Oil changes every 5k miles. Change transfer case and both differentials roughly once a year. I’m on my 2nd battery. So far zero issues. I tow a boat and drive off road frequently as well. The Ranger has been a solid truck so far. I Plan on keeping it a long time.

Yep, dead wrong 10000000%.

The filter is a pleated unit that will not 'clean out' if it is flushed.

Right,
sometimes it’s not worth arguing with the ”experts”.
I even asked specifically what is the cost to replace the filter and that’s when he said there wasn’t one,

Guy I work with runs a pretty reputable shop on the side, I want to ask him about the trans fluid change.

I would run not walk from this dealer.
my thoughts as well. at best this dealer is badly misinformed, and at worst is so lazy they are willing to just lie to a customer to engage in the work they want. this isn't a terrible departure from advising a customer to refill their headlight fluid.

as earlier stated, $400 for spark plugs is a huge wtf moment. i'm barely more mechanically inclined than most and even i swapped those plugs with minimal headache.

find a new dealer, i'd say. and btw, congrats on that 100k mark that you're nearing!

Thanks a lot Jim for pushing back against right to repair. So we might all have to deal with these morons that are not even car people. They are the “experts “ on Fords. We should not know more than them.
