I've never had a truck newer than the 90s. Limited slips could fishtail controllably until you got bored. The open diffs...hit or miss, mostly miss. Just didn't slide well.

Times have changed for vehicles. How is the Ranger for having fun? Without the locker can you kick the ass end out on dirt/gravel?

Why am I asking? Mostly because I can. I've been driving FWD for too long and miss having RWD fun (we all act like kids every now and then). Used models with lockers are harder to find, but if the open diff can't have fun when I want to then I'll keep searching.

UPDATE: Well the best deal in my area ended up having a locker anyways. BUT, hell no it's not needed to slide this thing around. Like the others said, turn everything off with the long press first and go to town. Either it's a "good" open diff mechanically or their computer magic makes it do it's thing, but it'll spin both tires. This is one fun truck!! I thought I'd need to get a tune to enjoy it but I'm having a blast already. Now just to find a topper.

Yes. Mine has a locker but it can slide with it unlocked. Only issue is TC sucks and ruins all fun. Even a long press only allows a 20 degree slide or something like that. I hear sand mode if you have the terrain mode options allows more freedom.

Hold down the traction control button till the supplemental assist and everything else is disabled on top of the traction control. I think you have to hold it down 5 or 10 sec. You will see it pop up on the screen in the gauge cluster.

Be aware that the Ranger does not have a Limited Slip Differential. It either has an open diff or an E-Locker. That said the aftermarket may have a Torsion type LSD available for the rear.

Not much because the traction and stability control kicks in.
Push the traction control button once to turn it off and push and hold it for ten seconds to (mostly) turn off the stability control.

Long press along with putting it in 4x4 will allow a guy to get as sideways as he wants.. noticed this when I owned my ranger. WOT cyclones until you feel queezy ftw.

Saved me the trouble of pulling the ABS fuse lol.

4x4 donuts in the snow are much rowdier and more fun than in 2wd too so.. no skin off my back. Sucks for people who don't have snow though lol.

Long press doesn’t allow enough wheel spin for me, even in 4wd. And in snow. Abs just go bonkers and it feels like I am going to break something.

Damn. So it seems that locker or not doesn't matter, the nanny controls take the fun out of it.
Just stay in it it will spin and slide just fine if you hold the traction button it mostly turns it off and aslong as you are up in the rpms it will keep spinning with out kicking the traction control on

I dunno, I have a plain jane RWD XL with no nothing in the diff, just whatever it is stock.

But I can do donuts, rally slide for 100's of feet through curves (I guess that's drifting today), do e-brake turns, and fishtail all day long in snow.

I haven't tried on dirt or gravel, just snow and ice.

Maybe thats why so many people replace brakes at 30k and im at 90k on stock ones haha. Just push through the TC.

That's what I like to hear! And yeah, everyone calls it something different, I didn't know how to phrase it but it seems you understand me. Good to hear, thanks

With the snow coming in, this old topic got me. I really want to see in the snow if the E locker is really different from the old school LSD...and does it make it better for off road in general
