Anybody else having issues getting the factory installed fasteners loose? If not, how difficult was it to replace the original fasteners and is there a trick to it? Mine will not budge and I hate the thought of a service appointment for a 10 minute install.

Not difficult at all...especially on a brand new truck...are you using the right tools?

I used a T50 socket and they came right out. Try some break free spray and see if that helps.

Heat it up a bit with a heat gun. Just not too close to the paint. Locktite is tough on some and just requires a little heat.

What length wrench handle are you using? I had a 6 inch socket wrench and it took a bit of extra effort with a piece of pipe over the handle to give me more leverage to break them free!

You'll break the Torx bit before you hurt the screw. Go to town on it.

Side note for those in cold climates. Since the tailgate does not weigh much, it is slllooooowwwww to lower on cold days. I took a load of junk to the dump this morning and waited a good 10-12 seconds for the tailgate to go all the way down.

No issues. As others reported, I used a T50 torx socket with a wrench and it came right off. Definitely took some effort to free the bolts, but not more then I expected.

A little pressure added by hand to help it open if you're in a hurry! Fortunatley, hre in Florida we don't have such harsh Temps to slow things down!

Owning a Colorado has made the choice clear for me. The Colorado has a damper, the Ranger doesn't and my brain can't seem to distinguish between the two trucks. I've only let the tailgate drop twice now. Either my wife or I are getting this for Christmas!

Mine took a little force to get off. I didn’t have to gorilla it though.

But putting he new ones in, I ended up using my impact driver. I rethreaded them 3 times each of make sure I wasn’t crossthreading them. Impact driver put them right in.
