We were traveling on I-40 through Texas and always wanted to stop here and see the cross but never had the time. We stopped yesterday but it was so windy and cold Annie stayed in the truck while I took some pictures. The cross is 190' tall and weighs 2 1/2 tons and was built in just 8 months by 100 welders in 1995. There's a visitors center where you can learn more about the cross and its significance. There's really only one exit (112) where you can get off and see the cross and the town of Groom is so small (Pop. 552) if you blink you'll miss it.
