Haven't you heard vinyl is coming back. Besides some of us don't like paying streaming subscriptions.
So, what did you pay for the 8000 tracks?

I have a hunch that question will not be answered truthfully :lipssealed: so .99 cents each oh the days of Limewire etc.

I pick most of them up at thrift stores for $1 to $3 per disc. I'm cheap!

I collect mostly 70s, 80s and 90s artists along with some newer country. I have ripped some LPs if I find some clean vinyl. I am 72 after all, so I collect my music.

I have about 600 CD’s in storage, but probably haven’t bought one in ten years. At one point I transferred them all to a server so I could play them through my home stereo system, using a Squeezebox (now defunct), then a Blusound Node. I also had a Sonos whole house system.

But, if you like to find and listen to new music, which I do, a subscription service is the only way to go today. Plus, all the old music I labored to put on a server is available through the subscription as well. When I consider all the money I used to spend monthly on CD’s, a subscription service is a bargain in comparison. And much more convenient.

I got lots of free music from "Napster" back in the day , before they made that a crime.
Now I just listen to AM talk radio, cuz I'm wicked old dude

Ugh! What a process that was. Moving the songs from old computers to new computers or phones was maybe even worse.

Thanks to “Would you like to restore data from your previous phone?”, I still have some of my old music on my current phone, which connects nicely to my Ranger and let’s me listen to Dire Straits on repeat while I belt out the lyrics I’ve been getting wrong for decades.

Only $1.00! 🤑

Even back then I knew how to stretch a dollar. I guess having the Polish gene is sometimes a good thing. 😅

I also have the XL model. I have also found that I cannot use Android Auto unless my phone is plugged in by wire to the truck. It will not work wirelessly like the Bluetooth on my phone /truck do.
Another gripe I have is the AM/FM radio does not pick up radio stations unless they are local stations. Never had a problem with any other vehicle picking up signals. Must be a crappy antenna on the roof? Its the OEM antenna, not the stubby! Any ideas?
Probably the radio part of the APIM itself, or the antenna is loose at one end. I have the OEM antenna and the radio works decent enough.

Not sure about the 6G/Sync4, but on my 5G/Sync3 I could use the shuffle function to play random tracks from a USB stick. The only problem was that the stick would sometimes get corrupted and I'd have to format it and reload the music... until it finally got so corrupt that It wouldn't reformat it.

I now use an old IPOD touch, and I can shuffle that, too, and change tracks using the steering wheel buttons.

Never did post this on 6G.
Anyway ... the solution is about 60 lbs. in the passenger seat with the seatbelt latched.
Or, a DAP connected via bluetooth. But that's a really small screen to be messing with.

I have a few digital audio players. Sync4 will only recognize them as storage devices so wired, the Sync touchscreen takes control. So still have to deal with the lockout. Alternative is bluetooth. Looks like it's SBC only. At least that's what the DAP shows no matter what bluetooth codec I set it to. It doubt that it makes much difference through the basic 6 speaker system. I can't hear much of a difference between bluetooth and the USB stick and it's not like I'm doing any critical listening.

Ok, give me some time to dig, but there is a setting for this in the As-Builts , something with the allow passenger control over media while moving.
I think there is a way to override the need for a passenger (occupancy) to allow that control.
I know the setting is there , I just have to dig into the database to find the setting you need to look at.

I appreciate it. That would be great but what would I need to facilitate that change. Forscan?

I did some digging and even google search.
I see a possible solution for Sync 3 but not for Sync 4

Yes you will need Forscan to change the As-Built data.
But for Sync 3 - APIM 7DO-09-04, has a setting
Driver Restriction Passenger Exception xxxx-xxxx-2xxx
Now for the 5G this is set to 2 = Enabled, now I have access to my Ipod while in motion but have not tried a USB stick even without a passenger in the seat.

You may try googling Sync 4 (APIM) or (ACM) settings for similar
Drivers Restriction - NAV In Motion, settings as some varied options come up such as changing the country code but however may disable the auto dial 911 feature in the event of a crash.
There are some that report - using the quick menu (Forscan) and (disabling) the driver's restriction works for them.

Since I do not have Sync 4, it's up to Google to find an answer and even then, may be a trial-and-error play with Forscan.
I think the varied results comes from there are 2 separate Sync 4 database versions.

I think the best option (MAY) be trying the Driver's Restriction setting

Ok. I appreciate the info. I believe that there is also another specialty part that I would need that plugs between the laptop and the trucks data port, correct? What is that called and where can I get one?

Thanks

Here is a link to the Forscan web site. Scroll down to the list of acceptable adapters to use on your Windows computer.
