This got me curious so I dug out my brand new in the box Mishimoto pan that I bought back when they were on sale.

It's the magnet on the drain plug. The pan will drain fully.

It's one more thing in my pile of parts to be installed this spring.

And dang, this is a solid piece. I'm impressed.

Anyway, here are some pics.

Edit: If anybody wants any more detailed pics of the Mishimoto let me know before I box it back up.

Thanks for sharing that. I didn't know they made one but also thought it wouldn't drain.

I'm still in the camp of a deep sump needing a pickup extension though. Like a boat in the sea, off-roading especially I can see the chance is sucking in air more likely within an extension.

Trans temps were always a concern but may be considering the PPE standard capacity. I'm on pause for upgrades on the truck anyway. Waiting to make sure this new engine isn't consuming oil before I do some upgrades.

You do not need an extension. The deep pan holds an additional 2 quarts, so the fluid level is back up to where it should be in relation to the filter/pick up.

What was the sale price?
I'm thinking it was around $250 shipped.

I do remember that it was a good enough price that even though I wasn't planning on getting one, I got one ?

Im on the no need for extension camp. Knowing that by design the filter is completely submerged at the proper fluid level how can an extra 2qts of fluid capacity cause a submerged filter to suck air. I am a retired ASE master auto tech. And I'm positive that there won't be a problem. In order to make an extension for a submerged filter you would have to machine a mounting extension which in itself by design with the weight of the filter you risk cracking and leaking. So really guys. QUIT OVER THINKING THIS!
Rant over.

Yea, its like boating on a 20 foot deep lake vs a 1000 ft deep ocean. Depth under the intake of the motors cooling system has no effect on it drawing the water in.

I got both trans pans and comparing them. The Mishimoto pan is very nice and as you can see it’s a deep pan..
‘The PPE pan is not the deep one but between the two I like it better. It’s a lot heavier thicker

and the drain plug is larger. what do you think? I’m going to weigh them to find out the difference.
Hey Barry...Can you verify the PPE part #328053200

It looks like Mishimoto has it's own gasket? PPE reuses OEM gasket...how many times can that be reused?

If only dropping the pan once to simply replace it, then you should be ok. That said it isn't a bad idea to get a new one just in case. Once the PPE Pan is in place and torqued down, you should be set as there will be no need to drop it any more as long as regular service is performed.

Gotta drop it to change the filter, but that's only going to be every 30 or 60k miles.

If changing the fluid every 30,000 miles, I would not worry about changing the filter until you hit 150,000 miles since that is when Ford thinks you should change the Fluid.

For context, I'm not worried about changing the Filter on my 2012 Frontier either. It just calls for the Drain and fill. Also I got to take a look at the so called filter on that particular transmission. It's just a screen for it. I'm also aware that if regular fluid change are being done and the Transmission isn't coming apart, there should be no worry about the filter

Looking at the filter design, I can now see why you guys aren't too concerned.

It would be interesting if we could see how these companies measured the performance (cooling) of their pans. Towing in the summer the trans does get a little warm but really, just 10-25F hotter than normal city driving so I have not stressed too much.
