Compliance Recall 19S34

Select 2019 Model Year Ranger Vehicles
HVAC Blower Motor Issue

Affected Vehicles:

Vehicle: Ranger
Model Year: 2019
Assembly Plant: Michigan
Build Dates: August 1, 2019 through September 27, 2019

Reasons for this Compliance Recall:

Ford Motor Company is issuing a safety recall for select 2019 Ford Ranger vehicles. In affected vehicles, the HVAC blower motor may have been built with an improper clearance between an electrical terminal and the conductive base-plate slot that may result in a resistive electrical short. This condition can increase the risk of the HVAC blower motor overheating, melting, smoking or causing a fire.

Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this condition. Ford is aware of one customer warranty report of smoke while driving that is potentially related to this concern.

There were six reports of incidents that occurred in vehicles prior to delivery to the dealership. These vehicles were returned to Ford for further inspection and analysis.

This action affects 17,965 vehicles in the United States and federal territories and 1,544 in Canada.

Service Action:

Dealers will inspect the HVAC blower motor in affected vehicles and replace it if it is within the suspect part production dates. The Ford reference number for this recall is 19S34.

Agreed.

Status:12 - RECALL INCOMPLETE. REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE.

Recall Description:HVAC BLOWER MOTOR SMOKE FIRE

Risk to Safety:A BLOWER MOTOR BUILT WITH THIS IMPROPER CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE ELECTRICAL TERMINAL AND THE CONDUCTIVE BASE PLATE MAY RESULT IN A RESISTIVE ELECTRICAL SHORT THAT CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF OVERHEATING, MELTING, SMOKE AND/OR FIRE.

Remedy Program: OWNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED BY MAIL AND INSTRUCTED TO TAKE THEIR VEHICLE TO A FORD OR LINCOLN DEALER TO HAVE THE HVAC BLOWER MOTOR DATE CODE INSPECTED. MOTORS BUILT WITHIN THE SUSPECT TIMEFRAME WILL BE REPLACED. THERE WILL BE NO CHARGE FOR THIS SERVICE. FORD IS EXCLUDING REIMBURSEMENT FOR COSTS BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY PROGRAM WOULD PROVIDE FOR A FREE REPAIR FOR THIS CONCERN. FORD WILL FORWARD A COPY OF THE NOTIFICATION LETTERS TO DEALERS TO THE AGENCY WHEN AVAILABLE.

Agreed. According to what I read last night there isn't a fix yet, however, they are inspecting for a particular build date. So, not sure what's going to happen.
They actually inspected mine already and it failed so the truck will need the new part.

The fix is replacing the blower motor which I believe the affected module is included with the blower. The recall pays .4 hrs even if it needs the blower so it's not a difficult repair.

It sounds like replacement is considered a warranty charge not a recall charge.

Mine was built in that date range... I wonder if it’s all trucks in that time?

NHTSA has a vin search. If they already issued the recall, it will be in the NHTSA site.

It's on there. I was supposed to take delivery on Friday but the recall was applied to my truck during the day and they weren't able to release it. They performed the inspection on my truck and it failed. I'm hoping the blower is ordered today and Ford has parts in stock.

That sucks, hopefully you get it soon. It's hard enough waiting for the build date only to now have to wait for this. I remember ordering one of my F 150's and there was a back order on the 60/40 front seats. IIRC it took a couple extra weeks and it drove me crazy having to wait for these. Heck I would've taken as is and use a lawn chair...lol

Great. I get the recall notice and then I check my build date to confirm. 09/11.
