I’m hopeful that this is not a big issue, but maybe a few of you will be more knowledgeable than myself. Anytime my truck is in park or drive (0mph- idle speed) I hear an odd squeaking sound from my truck, which more specifically I believe it is my transmission. There are no squeaking sounds when I am in reverse or neutral, and this all happens at cold or warm engine temps. I did recently get an oil change through the dealer, but I don’t think this is the cause. Anyone else have/ had this issue? Some details on my truck below:

2020 Ranger XLT RWD
~56k miles
Vehicle maintained regularly, very well taken care of.
Original transmission
Stock suspension w/ leveling kit (@17k miles)
It’s none of my belts. None of this noise comes from the engine bay.

I'd get it to the dealer before you hit 60k

Does the squeaking stop or change at all when the engine speed is increased?

I think it stops- or it at least I can’t hear it. My exhaust is a bit loud compared to the squeaking, so it’s hard to tell if it completely stops or not.

It sounds like an exhaust heat shield or an exhaust component squeaking. I doubt that it is the transmission. It could be a loose skid plate (if you have one, they may not have tightened the bolts to it after the oil change).

Sounds like noise from a pulley. Water pump going bad, or A/C compressor?

Although the sound is just like a squeaky belt, I think it is a lose exhaust flange squeak along the pipe and you are hearing the 2 pieces of metal rubbing together.

Has this been resolved? I am having the exact same sound on my '19 Lariat. It just started happening within the last few weeks. I have even heard it with the engine off, so I am certain it is not a pulley types of issue. It definitely seems to be related to physical movement of the truck, at least in my case.

I just got my truck back a couple hours ago and they found out the front exhaust hangers were rubbing together. I do have an aftermarket cat back exhaust, and the rubbing was caused by the bracket placed in the wrong spot on the exhaust pipe. The technician did say that they have even seen similar problems with the stock exhaust system too. I would check that first, as it is easy to see and locate. It’s strange to me that this just started happening because I’ve had this exhaust system for about 45k-50k miles. ?

AT wins a chicken dinner for being closest to the actual issue - same sound and location, different bits.

Hmmm, could it be the front exhaust hanger is in a slightly different location on a 2WD than on a 4x4 because of the diff or t-case and the aftermarket company used a 4x4 as their guide? Or, the mfg offers a 2WD and a 4x4 version and you weren’t asked to select 2WD?

I read an article with this but it does not mention what year or generation of Rangers…

Gibson advertises systems for both the 2wd and 4wd Rangers.
PaceSetter offers a TFX Performance Kat-Back System for 2wd and 4wd Rangers.

Thanks for that response. That makes sense actually and would explain why I can hear the sound even if truck is not running. I may look at this Friday afternoon.
