Final update - hopefully :D

Got my baby back!

Fresh Motorcraft transmission per the documentation from the shop - 7 grand for that unit, plus labor etc etc was just under 10k with me being out of pocket 1200 (they did the oil change as well)

NOW...I know I've asked this a few times and perhaps its because no one knows the answer but...is this gonna happen again? I am hoping that the CDF issue is past? Or are we looking at the second coming of the Ford Focus Powershift and there really is no fix due to the design being flawed? :(

I only have about 50 miles on it. the upshift from 3 to 5 is hard but smoothing out. All the other shifts are stiffer than I remember but not BAD. I figure it will be at least another 200 or so miles before it figures out what it needs to do? OR should it be longer?

I’ve stopped visiting this forum too often. It just makes me shake my head and wonder if this, being my first ever Ford was a mistake. I’ve only got 5.5k miles on mine, so a ways from apparent transmission doomsday. But even having to think a trans could require replacement at 80k is absolutely ridiculous.

Built Ford tough? I wonder.

Lol. I knew this response was coming. Even if you are correct, just this forum is TOO MANY problems. As well as other models in the lineup with this transmission, but hey it's just the pitfalls of owning a car, right? They are expected to break even with just few miles apparently. Lol.
Agee 100%. Ford, and others, have been making cars for a few years now. You’d think they’d have it figured out and wouldn’t be selling vehicles that have forums that have to talk about serious, catastrophic, and costly issues like transmissions failing so early.

But hey, don’t make’m last too long. This way we can sell’em a replacement or entire new vehicle?

Sounds like it's doing the "learning". Idk how long it takes. I've had dealers tell me 200,500,20...

I just recently started driving mine again as it sat for 6 months while I healed up, I've now put about 400 miles on it (15200 total) the last week or so , same driving I always have done , only now it seams to be shifting ok ?, better than ok really as I haven't noticed any rough up shifts and especially haven't felt any rear end collisions at stop lights when downshifting, which it has done since new ... can't explain it and I probably just jinxed it anyway but something ? IS different , and in a good way , for now at least...

So apparently the shop I have it at marks up the transmission a bit lol

Geico MBI will cover the retail cost of the transmission +10%.

That being said I'm still going to be out of pocket, including the 250 deductible, 1080.00 out the door.

I've been told the total bill - $9500.00 wow...

I was wondering when you would come across this update. ?

No one more intimate with the cost on this than patient zero.

I have decided if I ever need to get the trans replaced I'm going to take it to local transmission shop that has a good reputation and has been around forever rather than a dealer. I'm sure it still won't be cheap but I'm pretty sure it will get done right.

If they wanted more ratios Ford should have just licensed the ZF 8 speed like they did with the 6R80 which seems to be a more reliable box all round. I don't think Ford has designed a decent auto since the C6. We have a number of Chinese manufacturers dumping pickups into the market here and they all use a variant of the ZF 8 speed, because ZF has plants in China, and they can brag about their German (built under license) auto gearboxes. But to be fair most owner reports are they are silky smooth, very reliable boxes. Obviously ZF keeps close watch over QC in it's Chinese plants.

Yep good quality aftermarket parts designed to overcome weaknesses in OEM parts built to a price, can sometimes be the go if there are known issues in OEM design.

Too bad they couldn't just make a transmission like the old days where it did transmission stuff like change gears.

again this is why I miss my old 2005. It was a 4.6 and a 4R70W...a taxi cab with a cargo box.
