Is this whining noise before I start the truck normal? (NOT transmission)

I've had my Ranger for almost a week now. Whenever I open the door prior to starting the truck, or sometimes when I press the brake pedal (again, with the truck shut off) I hear a whining noise like a pump charging a system under the hood. Is this normal?

I'm attaching a .mp3 recording of the sound. At the very very beginning of the sound you can hear me lightly tapping the brake pedal, then the sound runs for a few seconds.

Yup, it is the fuel pump initializing. Totally normal, but yes, kinda loud.

Cool, glad to know it's normal. Always takes a bit to get used to what is normal and what is not on a new vehicle.

I seem to have a similar issue with all of my vehicles since I got married. Must be something in the gas out here...

I had an ejection seat in the SHO I traded in for my Ranger. Didn’t fit in the Ranger, so I gave it to a buddy to mess with his kids.
