Misspoke here...meant the first mark at the TIp...guess that would 5?

My bad :(
Technically the 1st mark on the stick would be 6.5. If so then you may be on the low end depending on trans temp .

Again that was the fluid level after she spit some out on the road...between the dot and the 6....truck sitting level and running.

So we made it home okay thankfully.

A few observations...after setting the code we pulled off and cleared the code. No issues through to Lake City, FL. That morning started out and started having some shifting issues after warming up. Pulled off at a rest stop and shut it off. Started back up and no issues. Ran all the way to our destination and no issues. However I noted that there was a film of, I am guessing, transmission fluid on my tailgate? Also there was a nice film of fluid on the underside of the truck. That was, from what I can find, a sign of either overtemp OR overfilling. I changed the pan, filter and installed the dipstick SIX MONTHS ago?!? I've driven it to work (45 minutes at 75) and to Austin twice (3.5 or so hours at 80 in spots on 290). There was no trans temp warning (if there is one? not sure?) Coming back home it had a few issues crop up - same weird shifting such as the RPM going way up as it upshifts to 10 then settles down. Downshifts feel like it was a damn big hammer hitting something. Now here is the the crazy thing - it was acting up and I was looking for a spot to pull off and give it a quick break the thing started shifting fine.

Its NOT going to the dealer. The geico MBI works pretty efficiently I found so its going to a shop my family has frequented quite a bit. They told me, instead of 3-4 months per the dealer, 1-2 weeks.

What in the wide wide world of sports is going on with this damn thing?

Another member had an exhaust leak where the resonator connects to the downpipe and it was blowing onto his transmission, overheating it.

It’s worth a look.

During the last stages of my transmission's demise...it went from 10th down to 5th on it's own while on the highway, would not come out of that gear...when I pulled over, there was fluid dripping from the trans and I could see it was sprayed back all over the under carriage...didn't last much longer after that...

Remember all of those folks telling us were being unreasonable about these transmissions and spreading fear, etc? Remember?

So I asked this before on another thread....so I'll ask here. The work gets done.

What are the quality of parts that are being installed? Are they aftermarket and beefier generally? Are they Motorcraft and possibly compromised like the parts that came in the OEM transmission? What is the life expectancy of a reman/repaired transmission?

I find myself reminiscing about my old truck. 4R70 in my 2005 F150 had a full 250k before it started showing signs of slipping. I kick myself for selling that truck...a 4.6 and a 4 speed. Basically a taxicab with a truck bed and was reliable as anything I've ever had. :(

repair work through the dealer is FORD parts ( who ever makes them for FORD )
independent shops buy from parts houses & or dealers so it could be FOMOCO or after market parts.

Remember hearing from the millions of owners that never had transmission problems?
Me either, because you don't get those on a forum dedicated to reporting and researching problems.

Lol. I knew this response was coming. Even if you are correct, just this forum is TOO MANY problems. As well as other models in the lineup with this transmission, but hey it's just the pitfalls of owning a car, right? They are expected to break even with just few miles apparently. Lol.

So apparently the shop I have it at marks up the transmission a bit lol

Geico MBI will cover the retail cost of the transmission +10%.

That being said I'm still going to be out of pocket, including the 250 deductible, 1080.00 out the door.

I've been told the total bill - $9500.00 wow...
