i was tempted to go that size but they work out to almost 34 inch tall. im struggling to get 33 to fit. However most of my problem is likely the width of the tire not the height. my other deal breaker for that size was not having many options for tires. less than ten on the market in my area. but if i was doing an all off road based rig tall and skinny is how i would go.

If the online reviews are something to go by, Falken AT3W seems to be the BFG KO2 rival and that comes in the 255/80R17. I couldn’t find much about the comparisons between AT4W vs. KO3, probably they’re too new and not enough people are able to get their hands on’em.

I taped couple of 35x200mm foam blocks to my factory Tremor tires and did a rough flex test with truck on the jacks & sway bar disconnected. It seems to clear! Even with shock fully compressed and lock to lock turn. I was hoping to verify that with someone already running this size ?.

Truck’s a Tremor with factory suspension and no lift or trimming. Has the BDS skinny crash bars.

One interesting fact, the 255 Falken AT3W (& the AT4W) has wider contact patch then the factory 265 tires in the Tremor!

I use 255 75 17. I don't have to move a thing all stock truck. 80 i think would rub unless you had a level or lift kit. But i believe pizza cutter is the way to go. Worked for me so far, and i only have an fx2.

You're assuming that both sides of the truck are symmetrical but they may or may not be. My bed is 1/2" higher on one side than the other-the tool box I have mounted isn't just for tools but also to hide this. If you have a similar situation in your front end one side may not rub while the other might.

Excellent point. Thank you for bringing it up. I guess I’m gonna have to tape foam blocks to the passenger’s side tire now .
I thought if it cleared the driver’s it’ll most likely clear the other side as well.

255/80r17 will fit
Biggest problem most people have fitting bigger tires is the width. Gotta adjust wheel offset to make a wider tire clear the steering knuckle, but then you push the tire out into the crash bar or frame when you turn. You don't have the same problem going skinny, then the lift from the tremor suspension will help clear even more.

I'm running 255/75r17 with the Fox 2.0 leveling kit and there is a ton of room on all sides. Pics on my profile for reference.

very true. my truck is far from square. if it was, my tire rubbing would already be solved.

I ran 255/80r17 Toyo Open Country ATIII on my Ranger for awhile. This size was closer to 32" with the weight of the truck on the tires. They did a great job, but didn't fit the look of my Ranger, as its evolved.

There is an argument to be made for skinnies over fatties and vice versa. It comes down to what you want. I've stepped up to 285/75r17s now. I will say this: when I ran the 255s on stock wheels, the truck felt a bit less stable than before (when I had 265/70r17s). I added 1" wheel spacers and the truck felt a lot more planted and stable.

BFG KO2s are a great tire, though most people complain about the traction when the tread reaches half. I know several people who run the Falkens (though they were the AT3) who absolutely loved them. I can't say enough good things about the Toyos. They are great on and off road. They handle snow, sand, and rocks well.
