Mine has had its 10R80 rebuilt and shifts perfectly now. The question is, will it blow up at 90,000 miles and out of B2B/powertrain warranty? Good thing I got an extended, but I do NOT want to get stranded especially while camping far away from civilization.

This may be an insanely stupid question, but if I connect my OBD port scanner to look at the computer codes via Fordscan, will it delete the codes or leave them in place?

just as I spent money on this truck the transmission big time slipped out of gear in an intersection, revved as if in neutral, then slipped back into gear. Beginning of the end for the transmission I’d say. I wanna check the codes to see if I might be able to get the TSB above implemented.
You can read codes through Forscan. They will only be deleted if you choose to clear them.

You don’t need codes for the TSB to be implemented. They check for them as part of the TSB but not mandatory for moving forward with the other steps. As long as you’re within the the 5/60 ( or if you have an ESP) powertrain warranty.

I hope you’re right. My truck was a certified used 2019. So it has the 7/100k powertrain warranty and I’m at 65k miles. I’ll call the dealer and plead my case (the problem may or may not be replicable).

I, for one, am happy that Ford has found the problem and has issued a TSB on this issue. I love my Ranger and have no plans to get rid of it anytime soon. I have the extended warranty and have around 40k on it. I have noticed occasional clunking when going from reverse to drive but it's not very often and I'm monitoring it.

I find that if I press firmly on the brake and go from R to D or vice versa a little slower, it doesn't clunk. Same with going from P to D. If I just put light pressure on the brake pedal , it slams into D like a train taking up slack in the hitches. The light brake pressure does keep the truck from rolling, but if I use firm pressure, it goes into D smoothly, almost like there is a micro switch or something that changes the shift somehow.

Yup, same here. I only noticed the issue on cold mornings. What I did to stop it was while parked with my foot on the brake I would cycle the shifter from park to reverse and then drive, then back to park. Then when I backed out I wouldn't have the issue.
What that does is get fluid into the valve body channels and pre-loads them.

So I got my Ranger back from the dealer last Wednesday, shifts great, but it did before the work anyway. I guess I am pleased to get the upgraded drum under warranty and new seals, etc. I did not get a chance to talk to the tech, they delivered the truck to my house. I am going to stop in next week and see if I can just ask him about it, and any suggestions for care beyond the normal Ford maintenance . I enclosed the paperwork the dealer gave me with the steps. They did reference the TSB-23-2350 service bulletin in their descriptions of work done. So I'm hoping for the best. I drove my truck for work and put the first 45,000 on it in less than two years, but now have a company vehicle for work miles, so will only be putting around 5K a year on it now.

I appreciate the information and comments from the forum, I was not aware of any transmission problems before the dealer brought it up.

Thanks for the update. Mine is sitting at the dealer currently and they are performing the second step of the TSB ( valve body). I believe they are following the recommended steps in order and won’t be surprised if they move to the CDF drum after this. You have a great dealership!

Well if the posters who said it is a revenue generator are right, the dealers will probably overhaul them. I am not being cynical, I think good dealers are careful about not doing unneeded work. But if the OEM tranny has known issues, a good dealer would want to do the work under warranty for the benefit of the buyer. Nothing more likely to keep a customer from returning than an out-of-pocket transmission replacement. Unless they start getting push back from Ford about the cost. I hope you get the upgraded drum replacement and the guy knows what he's doing. Sounds like people who have had that are happy, but I don't know if there are drum replacements with lots of miles yet.

The 2023’s have the updated drum. Should be plenty of them out there with some mileage on them. Haven’t heard of any 2023 complaints that I know of.

Ohhh hello over there...

2023 here - shifting issues 3-4. Every other shift is smooth... Occasionally it will do it's stupid drop a gear, or 3 only to go right back to the gear it left in the first place... ?

I am scared to take it to the dealer... ? ? ?
