Hey my 2020 Ranger I has started noticing a clicking sound when the heat is on. It isn't related to the blower on high or low. Just if it is on or not. And it isn't all the time. Sometimes it isn't happening then sometimes it does. Sometimes one click sometimes a bunch in a row. Anybody had anything like that or any ideas? it is still blowing heat just starting to annoy me.

Hi Daniel I am sorry to say mine does the same thing as you described. It is the blend door actuator going bad, common on the 5g trucks sadly. So, a few threads / posts are around here about the problem. If you are under warranty a dealer may fix it. If not under warranty get your check book ready- about 3k to fix. Recently a member here posted some info and video about a way to possibly DIY the repair. I have not tried it yet. But I plan on giving it a go before spending more money on ford flaws.

Thank you for the reply. Yeah I just hit 38K miles (ofcourse). I will look into the video and see what I can do. Not really in the mood to shell out 3k. I will look into those other posts as well. Thank you again!

oddly enough im will likely hit 38k this weekend... maybe we have discovered the life span of the blend door. Just long enough to skirt the warranty ?

Its probably not a bad diy fix. My 08 f150 had a no heat situation and I was told it was a $1k fix to remove the dashboard. Well $23 later and a lot of Plastic cuts from shoving my arm through the dash I got it. Look at a part break down. There is always a way.

mine does the same thing also and some times the click will be loud enough to scare the dog.
also when I shut the truck off I will hear a fluttering sound like the blend door is bouncing when it closes. at my next oil change I will talk to my local dealer about this as I have an extended warranty for 8 years or 80,000 klms.

A few of us have this and it is just noisy actuators, or possibly actuators that may eventually fail. If your truck was built after July 30. 2020, you have the newer heater airbox design. If your truck was built before that, you may also need a new airbox, which is the costly repair ($3k). Almost all the Rangers built before July 30. 2020 will require a new airbox :(

The actuators themselves are $40-50 part and a fairly simple replacement.

See posts in this thread.:

Here is the thread on the defective airbox:

Actually, the HVAC Doors power open when you shut off the truck, this is by design to vent the HVAC Box (Mainly the Evap Core)

Makes sense. I had a 2003 BMW that must not have had this option, because in the summer when it was humid, the vents smelled like ass and feet. I took to the dealer a few times and they just sprayed anti-funk spray into the system, so I eventually just put a spray nozzle on a can of Lysol and used that.

My wifes volvos have turned the fan on after you shut down to dry out the ducts.

Bingo, give that guy a gold star...my 2019 did that for a while then the driver's side cooked me, and the passenger would cool...it was awful in the summer. I am sorry to say but if you don't have a warranty left you are in for an approximate $1600.00 (Denver's pricing) bill unless you try doing it yourself like some of these posts have indicated is doable.

Interestingly, mine was built in April 2021 (first batch of rangers with steel front fenders after the transition from aluminum). The heat in mine also does a clicking thing sometimes. Usually it clicks five times in a row, then a pause, then another five times in a row. After 2-3 cycles it stops. I never noticed anything weird about airflow when it happens.

I need to go dig up some videos on what the 'bad' ones sound like now.

LOL I have something similar to most you guys. Almost sounds like aplastic grocery sack when you crumple it in your hands.

Also maybe 50% of the time I have floor heat. Could that be from the same issues?

Yes...I hear that the symptoms depend on how it is engaged when it gives out...so many have differing symptoms.
