It's a known issue. Ford's paint warranty covers defects in the original factory-applied paint for up to three years or 36,000 miles. If you're out of this threshold, I recommend having a trusted body shop help with the repair & some will offer aftermarket clearcoat treatments (there are also quality detail shops that offer this type of resto).

Sorry that happened to you, I believe there was even a lawsuit recently about this.

Mine did something similar at almost 2 years and 26k miles. Waiting for the how they are gonna fix it. I didn't want to leave it with Ford while they figure out the 5Ws and they didn't have a Loaner to give at the moment.

Truck is two years old, but out of warranty. They will do nothing. I have been a loyal Ford owner for years. I have owned more trucks then most , just because of the fleet of trucks we kept on our farm. This truck is having transmission issues shifting into eighth gear in the last five thousand miles. I have been told it's normal . I dealt with Ford for years at my work. We supplied parts for cars, and they were never stringent on defects like the other car companies. I really like this truck, but thinking it's time to look elsewhere down the road. No vehicle is perfect, but a company that stands behind cheap practices in Ford tough quality should be.

I worked at a company in the 90's supplying parts for Toyota, Ford and GM. Toyota and Ford were very close in stringent quality standards. GM was a distant 3rd. Not even in the same ball park as Toyota and Ford. Of course, with the Quality as Job none I keep hearing about, maybe GM crept ahead of Ford in quality, recently

Was washing my truck , and paint started to flake off. I have a place on the inside of my tailgate doing the same thing.

Darn, that looks fairly large. I have a lot of small areas where rocks have chipped the paint on my truck, from mountain passes, but nothing like that. I am sorry. This Ranger is my first Ford and compared to my last four Subarus, the Ford dealer experience is definitely lacking :(

OP, that truly sucks. Quality is lacking in so many areas today. The dealers probably won't help either. I would do a spot paint touch up and ceramic coat it for now.

its been a long time but as a teenager i worked at a body shop and did all the crap work and eventually got to do paint work. from looking in the pic closely it looks like your paint has some trash under the paint, which is the reason why its coming off of course. the good news its fixable. bad news is that if its under the paint as it looks to be and not "in" the paint or clear no amount of polishing or wet sanding etc. is going to stop the other spots from doing the same thing as the one pictured. small debris, even dust or an oily finger print, drop of sweat form the brow etc. can ruin a paint job in a hurry if not caught. shame. the rangers are not cheap and ford is not kia or Suzuki. for what we pay for a ford these days i think its fair to expect better quality control for our money.

Wow, all my bumps and missing paint is from dents from sharp things hitting the truck, pinstripes, or rocks from the highway hitting the hood, but not from flaking. Sorry dude, hope you find someone to fix it affordably

That really sux, makes you want to puke! I hope you find a acceptable solution but this should defiantly be on Ford to fix . If you end up having to paint the top it does open options to make it truly different - possibly black top on blue truck might be pretty cool?? Maybe wrap the top??

Yikes! Pressure washer, by any chance? (It shouldn't happen with or without a pressure washer, I'm just curious because it looks exactly like what I did to my 2003 Ford Explorer with a pressure washer at 36,000 miles. Ughhhh.)

I had a section of paint corrode off my hood from bird poop very easily. The paint on these trucks seems laid down very thin. :(

I had same thing happen on front number plastic cover with a garden hose, that looks like the hood though in the pic. Ford does not like to do warranty work so they will fight you on it.

You could cover it with a vinyl decal, which is not a real fix but it's a cheap one. If it is the hood you could wrap the whole thing in a carbon fiber looking wrap. Or add a hood scoop if it is in the right spot.
