Ford seems to release these updates around August most years. I'm curious if the folks out of their three year warranty will receive this update for free. I expect those of us within three years will have this one free.

When I am navigating to a specific place and have cell service, I'll use Android Auto and Google Maps. When I am just driving around and want a map view to take a shortcut, or have reference driving in a new area, I often use the built in Navigation. Also when driving out of cell service, I use the built-in.

I do like the home view that shows the map, radio details and my phone. Too bad I can't do that with Google Maps.

I didn't get the last map update on my 2019 for free. They wanted me to pay for either the USB shipped or download version.

I was supposed to meet a friend at a river in Montana for a few days of drift fishing, but Google got me to a one lane road in the middle of nowhere and said "You have arrived' NOT! Rebooted my device and it took me another 14 miles to get there.
I bet that was an awesome trip!

It was, spent a month with my friend going from river to river, he is a avid fly fisherman. We ended up at Georgetown Lake NW of Butte, we had to point the RV for home from there.

I used to rely on the built in navigation until I found that I couldn't find a few places on the map search menu. I'd submit the address and it wouldn't come up with any results. Switched to using google maps now that I have a sturdy phone mount on my dash. I just don't like how my phone tells me I've been on my phone for "x" amount of minutes while driving.
I'm just trying to not get lost, man.

Wonder if there will be any new details to the update. I like the 3D map when I do use the navigation.
My version of 3D maps: =p

I used to teach Land Navigation in the Army at the advanced course, so I was pretty good with paper maps, had a good 'bump of direction', which with age has turned into a hill of confusion, so yeah, I love GPS Nav!

I just recently learned you can use the Cammenga to get a map azimuth by setting the bezel clicker to point to grid North, so no need for a separate protractor. I then click in the declination from there. I love old school navigation. Did most of my backpacking before GPS.

This is what I learned to use, did orienteering across Germany with it. Had this one for many years.

As a side, love the Corvallis area, used to visit a good friend in Philomath a lot.

Yes, Corvallis is still nice after 30 years of living here. I have been working for HP that whole time. Interesting compass, lensatic with mils/deg but no straight edge/ruler.

Was made for orienteering, on the run land Nav with a group of 5, also called leap frog Nav. We could navigate cross country almost at a steady jog, with a sprinter rotating to the front as a directional guide. (also while carrying a 50-70lb ruck). And we did this for FUN!

I just learned I will no longer get free map updates, although my 3 year warranty is good until 10/15.
