... everything I start to think ... F it I'll keep it another one blows the damn trans.

Maybe keep it another year and get away from it before 50k miles. That seems to be a safe mileage for them...

Hope this doesn't cost a small fortune for you.
You and me both.

Even though you are out of warranty . BE NICE and ask if a ford rep can get involved because you feel thats WAY TO LOW milage for this kind of issue . especially since they know you try and take care of it by keeping up on maintenance , lots of times they will split it with you or cover some of it , worth a shot , but BE NICE !
Someone else here had a failure and by being persuasive and or persistent got Ford to go halfsies on their transmission replacement - I think they basically paid the labor and Ford the parts.

Yours is a '19 and that predates the redesigned CDF drum that seems to be the main culprit in the 10R80 failures. TSB 22-2428 (find it, print it, open a dialog with Ford Care) may be your best negotiating tool for getting a reasonable solution.

Planning on keeping mine long term so I bought a little peace of mind with the Ford Ext warranty. I got 8 yrs/100,000 miles with a $50. Deductible. Paid $1500. for it and already used it to save me $400. on a bad lower ball joint assembly. Another $1100. Repair and this warranty will have paid for itself. Given the well known issues with the 10R80 transmission and the heater blend door assembly, I think an extended warranty is a pretty wise investment. Maintenance and repair-wise, my Ranger has been better than most other vehicles I’ve owned, but all things mechanical are gonna break at some point, and these vehicles now have so much tech and other complicated systems that the days of the backyard mechanic fixes are all but over. I would definitely recommend getting an extended warranty.

Saw that Sid, why I mentioned a trend, and the sad fact is this is JUST within this forum, so there are likely many more out there.
This forum (16K members) only represents only 4-5% of all Ranger sales. I'm sure there are many more out there with transmission issues but still a low percentage of those produced. I'm not saying I'm not concerned but I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet.

I'll most likely keep this one for a while so as long as it's still running great I'll buy a Ford ESP next spring and be done with it. I haven't read one car/truck forum where there hasn't been something wrong (some major, some minor) these days. If your (not yours personally) Ranger overall has treated you good and it's only the transmission you're worried about just get a ESP and be done with it. No sense going into the unknown with another brand. ?

Sid, my truck has actually been fault free from day one, I don't put a ton of miles on it as it gets towed behind my M/H more than driven, which is more off than on road. I do have the Ford ESP 7/70 which I bought in the 1st month.

I looked up this TSB 22-2428 on google and other users of these trannys are having same issues. Keeps going the same way, who knows might get a refund check for the failures and out of pocket pain.

Jesse, I'm hoping that yours will continue to be flawless...with the exception of my trans failing at 95K miles, my Ranger has and still is more or less, flawless...ya the USB going south every now and then for absolutely no reason is a bit annoying but it fixes itself...

Ya it's toast...

3rd incident: While accelerating to highway speeds, the transmission attempted to shift from 9th to 10th but began hunting between 7th and 10th causing an error code P0766 (wrench icon on), “shift solenoid “D” performance or stuck off”. I pulled off the highway and the transmission was stuck in 5th and there was evidence of transmission fluid expelled from unknown point. The fluid sprayed back and covered the drive shaft, frame, rear diff and muffler assembly. After shutting off and waiting a few minutes to restart, the transmission was operating as before and was driven home slowly.

Really?! What happened after?
Got stuck switching between 7-10 at highway speed. Shifted into sport to try and reset. It slammed hard into 7 and I got off the highway. It was slow to shift down past 7 but eventually came to a stop. Shut it off for 5 min and then carried on. Nothing else as of yet….

already scheduled my service for Aug 10 though. ?

I did not need to read this thread. As soon as the 2024 Tacos hit dealer lots I’ll be taking a look. I’m enjoying the heck out of this truck, but damn it! The trans on the 2019s seem to be ticking time bombs.
