I did not need to read this thread. As soon as the 2024 Tacos hit dealer lots I’ll be taking a look. I’m enjoying the heck out of this truck, but damn it! The trans on the 2019s seem to be ticking time bombs.
So you'd rather take a chance with a completely redesigned unknown product? First years runs are always iffy and you could be looking at several recalls and/or TSB's. Instead of one potential headache (10R80) you could be looking at multiple ones with an unproven new powertrain.

If the 10R80 is your main concern buy a ESP and enjoy it. You'll most likely have to buy an extended warranty on a Tacoma or any new vehicle for that matter. With the amount of tech in all these now it's almost a must have extra.

I totally agree. If someone was to do this, they need to take into account the cost difference between the 2019 Ranger FX4 and the comparable 2024 Taco. Probably be way ahead to take chances on the Ranger and paying for the repairs as needed, or buying the ESP before the issues start.

Hmmmm. I put out money for 3 year, 48k extended warranty in March. Maybe I should just drive this thing like I stole it and get a new improved trans

i just added 48k of warranty in March. I’m good to 83k. Maybe I should drive it like I stole it and hope it explodes before I hit the magic number ?

I would. I mean it's your money but I look at it like it could possibly be a bad financial choice. Personally I'd rather stick with "the devil you know" then take a chance with something unknown. Worst case the 10R80 goes ? and you get it fixed for the deductible. Now you have the newest one which should hopefully be good for many more years.

Now, if the Tacoma was out for a year or two and there were little to no issues I'd say do what helps you sleep better at night. I've gambled and lost to many times on first year runs to never do it again.

If they were swapping in a new trans, I would like to know how the labor charge comes to $3k? That is probably a 3 to 6 hour job.
I don't know...I know there's much involved and dealerships charge MD rates...

I imagine there's a process to upgrade the ESP from that. Did you get yours from Granger? Maybe contact @Zach@granger ?

Hmmmm? starting to see a pattern here, maybe I should dump it before mine goes up in flames. Isn't there a class action being started on these 10R80's?
I believe there are several. Meanwhile, there is at least one Ford shill on this forum who says those of us with tranny troubles are just a bunch of whiners. For that person I hope that his continues to work because it stops being funny when it starts being you.

So the punchline seems to be, buy the extended warranty, then when you get your replacement at 60-100K it will likely be the redesigned with the TSB already applied, right?

This reminds of the 3rd gen Focus DCT that everyone hated. Some just said "it drives different from a conventional, you just have to get used to it" but it had reliability/failures galore.

Personally i just had the MTX-75 (5 speed), so my only position in such discussions was one of condescension from olympus.

He's got me beat...original tranny?
You already know it isn't ?

yes, email [email protected] and if you have existing coverage we can upgrade your coverage for longer terms/miles.
Zach at granger is confirmed crawling under your truck at night for frequent forum posters to boost his warranty sales :p
