My understanding is that the 23's get a revised engine. I would hope they revised this out of the design. The interesting thing is that we have the same block as the Focus and it has a history of the same issue - TSB as well for that one. I'm thinking that this engine has a design flaw somewhere in it. I think Ford KNOWS IT TOO and that's why they try to shift the blame to the owner.

Mustang (different 2.3L block) seems to have this issue much less.
IMO all they had to do is cover each spark plug... like my 1975 Cosworth Vega engine. The sparkplug bores are like 4 inches deep but the cap on the wires plug them up water tight... skip the cover...

Long story short version. Bought my 2019 Ford ranger brand new put a small leveling kit on it with some decent tire size tires. Specifics are in my profile. Babied this truck. Maintenance followed routinely. I’m 46 years old little to no where in tear I actually drive like a grandpa. Fast forward to one month ago. Driving on the highway started having hesitation took it straight to Ford in the computer said it was misfiring. Very next day it was determined that my spark plugs were rusted and one of them was seized in the engine. My buddy who is one of the service managers called me and asked me if I had some submerged my truck or off roaded. Neither nor. Told me it would be $600 to replace the plugs. Two days later he called me and told me they couldn’t get one of the plugs out. Now it was gonna be $1300 to replace the plug and the coil. Three days later, they still can’t get the plug out Five days later the plug still won’t come out now they need to replace not only the coil but the head and it was going to take 22 hours of labor. It is now $2300. They were telling me worst-case scenario might be $3200. Turns out on this forum It was determined that is an engineering flaw. Ford is telling me that the reason my spark plugs are rusted because I’ve over washed my truck. They refuse to cover any sort of work. I have 61,000 miles on my truck and I’ve called the customer service line where they were complete, jerks and again refused to cover any of the work, there is a TSB bulletin that tells Ford to put an engine cover on trucks, such as mine to prevent water vapors from getting into the spark plugs. Ford knows there is an issue I now haven’t had my truck for over three weeks. Luckily, my friend who owns the dealership is willing to buy it from me. Still uncertain of the total cost or afford will cover anything. We are in a scenario where we are challenging the decision. Bottom line I just got a Tacoma today

if there’s anybody who’s experiencing the same sort of dilemma, or issue with rusted spark plugs, please message me I’m curious. As of now, I will never buy another Ford or recommend another Ford to any human being on this earth that I encounter. Otherwise, I absolutely loved my ranger and I’m sad this has happened.
WHAT A HORROR STORY, YOUR FRIEND OWNS THE DEALERSHIP BUT WONT HONOUR YOUR WARRANTY? I WOULD BE TEMPTED TO HIRE A LAWYER AND SUE FORD AND THE DEALERSHIP. I KNOW THIS IS EASIER SAID THAN DONE BUT PERHAPS A NOTICE OF INTENTION LETTER TO FORD AND THE DEALERSHIP FROM A LEGAL TEAM MIGHT GET THE BALL ROLLING?? I WOULD BE FURIOUS

Manufacturer Communication Number: TSB 22-2025

Summary
Some 2019-2022 Ranger vehicles may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304 and/or P0316 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to water build up in the spark plug well(s) which can lead to signs of corrosion on ignition system components. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to resolve the source of all DTCs and to install an engine appearance cover.

you’re right it can happen to any other vehicle but it usually doesn’t in my experience. Every Toyota I’ve owned lasted at least 300k without a single failure other than things I caused. Have a Tahoe with 581,000 miles that’s never had a failure. Have a 97 z71with 312,000 that’s never had a failure other than an alternator. But my wife’s 2019 f150 needed a transmission at 100k. Now my ranger has a list a mile long with problems.

hopefully it’s a coincidence but I’m starting to have my doubts.
We both know I could list all of my Fords, the mileages, and the few problems I have had. I can also list the competitors products I have purchased, or used over this time as well. While some problems were minor, some were major, and it doesn't make me run to the competition or hate what I drove.
When I shop for a vehicle, there's a lot of thought process that goes into it. I've been buying Fords for almost 40years and they keep getting my number 1 pick for a reason.
I'm also understand others don't have such a good time as I have.
Many times its rage talk in here when someone has a problem, is frustrated by it, and forgets the basic concept that it can happen to anyone on anything.
Just that no one wants to be that guy.

maybe your right. I’ve just never seen this many problems with any kind of vehicle in my life. The fact that the closest ford dealership won’t answer the phone for weeks at a time and schedules my appointments 5 weeks out is scary to me. My father in law works there, and he has informed me that it is the worst company he has ever worked for. He started at the same time I bought the ranger. I wish I would have known.

and I would try a different dealer but the next closest one is 2 hours away and they told me they don’t have any time for warranty work anytime in the future. They told me to call Ford and ask them what to do. All this for relatively minor issues doesn’t make me feel good in case I have more major problems in the future.

with that being said, for their price point I think it’s the most substantial truck on the market anymore. But that’s like comparing turds in a toilet. Some are better than others but they still a turd.

When Ford when to the 3 valve head on the Triton...the best the designers could do for the spark plug was three threads in the cylinder head....And the Engine Engineering management went with this as being okay. I just shook my head...not a good decision in my opinion...

Ford is certainly capable of making foolish decisions.

best,
Phil
