Ranger vs. GMC AT4 in 2024

This applies to 99% of the Wrangler Rubicons, Raptors, ZR2s, TRX trucks, etc. you see every day.

A few years ago a friend of mine bought herself a Wrangler Rubicon.

I asked her how she liked the lockers and swaybar disconnects.

Blank stare in response.

Me: You know, the stuff that makes it a Rubicon.

Her: I don't know what any of that is.

Me: Then why did you get a Rubicon?

Her: Because it's a Rubicon!

My Ranger needs a center bearing at 38k miles... what should I trade it in for?

So far my Ranger has been great, and I continue to recommend them to people. Making the choice to down size after 4 full size trucks in a row was a tough pill to swallow, but (so far) I'm glad I did.

The power train warranty was expired?

yeah, they kept telling me it was normal maintenance/ wear and tear and they wouldn't cover it..... ?? ??

so I went to another dealer who gave me more than I owed, and got me into a loaded Ram Rebel for less than what I was paying on the GMC

I need to stop by when their gates are unlocked. It's a 4th generation and I think in the 98/02 range. It has an aftermarket hood/wheels/etc on it so I'm not sure by driving by.

A TA of that vintage would be a lot of fun. I would like to own one, but I would prefer it being stock.

What was the estimate to fix your truck? I hate dealing for a vehicle based on payments. There are too many variables that can be hidden in the payment. The two that would initially scare me are interest rate and term. LOL, my wife is still mad about me buying a Ranger. She wanted me to keep my 2011 Tacoma and repair issues as needed. In the end, it cost me @ $20,000 to go from a ten year old Tacoma to a new Ranger.

I tried the new 4-banger turbo on a '23 z71 silverado I had for a rental while my Ranger was at the doctors getting its bumper and rear quarter panel replaced... piece of s#!t
The engine went eco (cyl 2&3) shutdown way too soon and didn't bother how to change it/shut it off. So, yeah, on paper it sounds like a powerhouse but felt like a total dog on the siverado. And the Colorado twins aren't that much lighter...not for me

Don't you just love it when a company (GMC-Chevy) comes out with something new and EVERYONE jumps on the bandwagon to stand in line___"I gotta get one" !!!
Imagine if some Chinese auto company came out with a pick up that had even more "neat stuff"....
how many would start comparing it to the Ranger.
Cannot understand buying new just to have "new" cause it has a new option...especially if, as you posted, most owners will likely never use the vehicle to it's full potential.

Don't exclude Ford from that conversation. Lot of people on the 6G forum begging Ford to take their money on a new vehicle they don't know the final specs on yet. Lots of guesses and wishes, but no facts.

Oh, I totally agree...
All Ford has to do to get 5G owners into a new 6G is to advertise 3 more hp, and that it now comes with "new" hood dampers and a "tricky dicky switch" that does absolutely nothing, but it's a "neat" accessory. And, it has the new Quadriffle Pusssant Uptick Valve that is sure to astound your friends with an older 5G Ranger.
5G owners will start lining up and getting on "the list".
Ford salesman..."Sir, are you sure you want to trade in your 2022 Ranger with only 167 miles on it for a new 2024"?
5G owner...."By gosh, YES, because it's NEW" !!!

FWIW, the ColorAnyon Twins are Crew Cab/5' box only all models & trims as of 2023 MY. Tremor is available only in SuperCrew 4X4 XLT High and Lariat trims. Rumor mill indicating an available Ranger SuperCrew/6'box option for 2024 MY,
but Tremor & Raptor will probably be 5'box.

That is a great attitude if you are paying cash. Try financing right now beyond three years. I'd be driving another car if the banking stuff wasn't bonkers atm a week ago.

As I said a lot of guesses, wishes and RUMORS. No facts but people are crying for Ford to take their money to be the first on their street, town, what ever to have one. No wonder dealers get away with crazy ADMs. This is all about wants not needs. It's about whos got the newest, most HP, fastest, biggest tires, on and on. People have gone crazy.
