ZZ Top.....thats "modern" stuff...
I'm talking Beach Boys, Little Anthony, Paul Anka, stuff from the 50's and 60's....
ZZ Top would have been considered "noise" back then.

AM is one of those radio technologies that works like your spare tire.
It just hangs out and never gets used. But one day, you may be in a bit of a pickle and able to use it for information.

I remember when Hurricane Ike hit Houston, we had no local FM stations we could hear at first. Either antennas damaged or power was out. But we could get AM out of San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, New Orleans. Only way to get news and weather forecasts. Even NOAA Weather Radio was off line.

I know the amount of people using am radio is likely very low. but i hate to see good stuff go away. we want tech comfort and speed but sometimes we adopt the opposite. self check out for example. its better than standing in line with two items. but when you have a full cart self check out is a $%#CH. People either love or hate it. I tend to hate it. esp now that some stores have figured out its cheaper to make everyone use self check out than pay a human to do a job. so now we often have no choice and the speed, comfort, and up side of tech is gone. I know radio and check out two different things. but yall get the idea.

I can remember when you were high falutin by having a Realistic 8 track to cassette adaptor hanging out of your AM/FM/8 track radio. I had one of those adaptors and they were super heavy and you better hope in never came flying out of the radio in an accident.

But yes low frequency radio signals are susceptible to interference and I can see why automakers will stop putting in radios with AM, especially since most radios are just mini computers now days. While all the electronics and such can be shielded for interference, it is easier and cheaper to just eliminate AM in the radios.

I've owned my 2019 Ranger for nearly three years. I believe I have used the AM radio once, but then only to pre program the local channels, just in case. Fact is, one FM channel gets used 99% of the time. The other? Only when I hit the wrong button on the steering wheel!

Oh! And Satellite radio? Nada, never, noway, nohow, am I going to pay for things I can get for free over the net.

I have great memories of road trips out in the middle of nowhere and being stuck with only AM religous or Spanish stations perfectly clear.
Then when in that small rural town. AM was often a low wattage locally owned station announcing irrigation canal schedules and storm warnings.
I enjoyed the change.

Nowdays, I listen primarily to Sirius and enjoy its mostly seamless reception no matter how far I go.

I listen to AM my whole work day. Old habits die hard. I just found a new FM station by accident that plays 90's grunge an alternative an newer alternative I'll flip to that if nothing interesting is happening on sports or political talk.

A few of the AM stations simulcast on FM now so maybe they're planning for the day.

MLB locks down their product behind paywalls on line. I've listened to Cleveland games driving in Kentucky at night before. That is one thing I used it for. Not much for regular season games but for post season games.
