Weird one folks. The center armrest in the rear seat will not fold down. WTF? Anyone else run into this?

Is there a strap to pull it out with? If so try pulling it upwards because they've been known to stick on some.

Pulled straight. Up. Down. Looked at back of seat for any issues.

As to pulling it hard enough, if I pull it any harder I'm afraid I'll rip the strap or something.

These things aren't rocket science. But thus sucker is stuck. Just odd.

Edit: Also jammed my fingers in around the edges trying to feel if anything could be holding it. Nothing.

Read through this thread as others have had the same problem. Looks like they just gave it a good tug and it opened. Also try pushing in on the arm rest with one hand while pulling the strap.

Just went and looked at mine plus read through the thread Dave mentioned, looks like if you push in while pulling the strap it will release some pressure and the armrest will come down. Maybe a spot of lube on the latch once you have it open will help future deployments.

Got it. Pulled strap up again. About to the point of worrying about tearing something. But it popped loose.

Read the thread just as an FYI even though I got the armrest down already. One person said they'd looked in the manual and learned how to do it. Heck, I looked in the manual before starting this thread. Couldn't find squat as far as "how to" for the armrest.

Anyway, thanks for posting the link. While I search this forum often, it never even occurred to me to look for anything about the rear seat armrest.

you have to push in with one hand while pulling on the strap with the other.

They designed it wrong so the harder you pulled on the strap the tighter it gets. If you push in the armrest and then pull the strap it releases the latch and it comes down easily.

I figure they ran out of quality control people in the testing dept.

You got to yank it upwards. The more you feel like it's going to break, the closer it is to releasing. It's the worst design ever.

I’ve found that pulling the strap sideways releases it fairly easy

When I bought my new car in 2014 I could not open the trunk with the key. I went back to the dealer. Mechanic came out & turned/opened the trunk.
I felt like an idiot, but crazy the pressure you need to use
when using the key.
