Truck bed is not aluminum like in F150, only the tailgate is aluminum. Tacoma is plastic composite.

Tell me what’s stronger, plastic composite in the Tacoma or steel in Ranger?
I would prob say both have ups and down. Composite will not dent as easily as steel, and will not rust after many years, no worry about water getting trapped in places, etc. At the same time, composite will crack over time, the sun can do some major damage to the plastics, weaken them, and a cracked Taco bed will prob need to be entirely replaced. If the steel bed dents, you can usually buff that out for minimal cost and keep using the bed for years. That said, its more prone to scratching, definitely more prone to rust than composite.

What you’re looking for is a spray-in bedliner that will be waterproof, and keep your bed scratch & dent free for years.

Thanks for the detailed reply! Yes, I did read that the engine has been used in a lot of different vehicles already. That is something that gives me a little peace of mind. I only wonder how its long-term (e.g., over 100,000 miles) longevity is like, given that it is an aluminum engine with a heck of a lot of pressure and a turbocharger on top of that. If there is one thing I know about engines, is that turbochargers tend to wear them out faster. My mom has a 4 cylinder engine 1988 S10 pickup truck that she has been using since she bought it new back then (manual transmission). I honestly do not expect a modern truck to last anywhere near that long, especially with an automatic transmission. With that said, I do hope that this engine / transmission can make it to at least 130,000 miles or the 10-12 year mark if properly maintained.

Thank you!
The longevity issue for me is much easier to imagine long life since the ranger makes all its torque down low. Truck does not need to exceed 2500 rpm in normal driving conditions including under tow at highway speeds.

Did you pull the trigger?

Going to take a look at the truck today in the afternoon. I'm about 95% sold on it right now, need one last look around.

I have an STX SuperCab.
A couple of things I found out a little late, but would have been nice to know...
The productivity screen is small and less colorful, but it does provide all the information needed for the features supplied.
You should order the 101A package, or at least check its content.(cruise, power mirrors for instance)
If you order the Co-Pilot 360 you will get the same productivity screen as the XLT, but it is not needed unless you want the features.

The 4.2" Radio screen is the only Radio available on the XL series. It has almost everything the 8" has except for a couple of advantages and a couple of disadvantages, overall it is superior for my needs since it is not a touch screen, the screen is always clean and the buttons are very responsive.
You will not get Automatic Zoned Climate Control or Apple Car Play, or Android Auto.

Carpet is optional.

The base XL interior is solid comfortable and attractive including very high quality upholstery.
I like the interior dash color and trim on the XL the best of all.
The STX does give you 17"mags and ebony XLT upholstery and driving lights.
The seats are well articulated but have no power and the passenger seat has no lumbar adjustment.
Overall the XL 101A package gives you all the essentials in comfort, quality, and style.
There are lots of bells and whistles added as you advance toward the Lariat.
Nice stuff, but nothing I will miss.
Look for yourself before you buy, but be assured that you will get a quality, well equipped truck at every trim level.

My dealer actually had the correct PSI and the washer fluid was full.

Hi all,

Found the perfect truck, got them to take an additional $900 off the original deal made by one dealer (went to another one to see if they could beat the price).

I'm going to be test driving and buying tomorrow, they made me a 24 hour offer with 0% APR for 60 months.

One question I do have left is this, does the truck come with any standard anti theft systems or protections at all? Will I / should I buy a lowjack (about $700)?

Thanks!!!

You do get the perimeter anti theft system with the 101A package on the XL
Here is a build and price site ...click on configure for trim level and explore!

Also, if you get the FordPass app, it will tell you where your truck is - service is free for 2 years. You could pay for a lot of years of FordPass service for $700.

If you haven't already, go to ford's website and see if there are factory rebates in your area, and clarify with the dealer if the $900 off is a discount or if they are hiding a factory rebate in there when you could instead ask to be stacked/separate

One more thing guys, is it normal for the Ranger to have what feels like pulsing breaks? I test drove two trucks and 1 of them definitely appeared to have pulsing breaks. It wasn't major, but like a minor pulsating when breaking.

I am really happy with my Ranger so far. I also have a 2wd SuperCab, it feels just the right size to me...except it should be a couple inches lower in the rear. The one thing I wish I would have know before I bought it was there wasn't any way to lower the rear.

Some people report inconsistent braking: Possible brake issue

I think it has to do with the fact that the Ranger has electronic-assisted brakes, as part of the automatic braking technology.
