Have a lot of those in Fisherville, do ya? ?

Being in Toronto, I’m not sure what’s worse, raccoons, squirrels, or those. ?
We have a lot of those blasting up and down our street at 25mph, waiting for one to bite the big one as they pay zero attention to traffic laws.

I wonder if throwing a "male enhancement pill" like Viagra into the fuel tank would "enhance" the Rangers mileage ? As it dissolves it would cause the fuel "to get more and more" !!!
After all, an enhancement is an enhancement, right ?
Have a lot of those do you?

I’ve had my Ranger over 3 yrs. I now have over 48,000 miles on it. For the 1st couple of years, I averaged 23.7 mpg. Over the past nine months, it has slowly increased. I am now at 25.9 and occasionally it will get up to 27.
I’m a grandmother, but I don’t drive like a “granny”. But I’m not a hot rodder either. :) There are a lot of variables at play here. I also have an FX4.

I'm not obsessed with mileage, but I feel 27 is obtainable.
Last 2 tanks I got mid 24's.
Leveled
Wheel spacers
mud flaps
bug shield
running boards All should be taking away from MPG's

I get this if I stay off highway. On there I do 65-70 with c/c
The majority of driving is 55-60 on town roads. I drive conservative, but get on it occasionally.
If mods were off and I drove hypermileage stylle, most likely get 27

Regular 87: $4.96
Mid 89: $5.20
Prem 91: $5.44
Gas is cheaper here but the jump to plus an premium is a lot more.
Last place I filled up was $3.49 for reg, plus was $4.49 an premium was 4.79. A buck 30 times 15 gallons adds up in a hurry. That's about $20 a tank for me that's about $50 a month. Some places have smaller jumps like 70-80 cents for plus an a buck to buck 20 for premium. Before someone took office the jump was like 30-40 cents for plus an 70 cents to premium...that was a little more acceptable, especially when the starting price was in the low 2 buck range.

mileage with higher octane wasn't anywhere near enough to cover the extra cash for me.

Great point and as another poster mentioned; the regional differences make this a difficult conversation to have broadly.

The olden days there were ads to install a "Snake Oil" water injection system to "increase" mileage. JC Whitney and other car parts catalogs sold injection kits.

The BMW M4 GTS is so far, the only production car to make use of water injection. Water injection – also called “anti-detonant injection” – is a technology that is claimed to reduce both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions while boosting engine performance.

Maybe can recycle the catch can fluids?

Hey guys, Love my 2020 Ranger 4X4 Lariat. 63K miles and absolutely zero issues. But with fuel prices sky-rocketing, I'm wondering if anything can be done about my 19 - 20 m.p.g. unloaded, and 15 - 16 m.p.g. loaded (usually pulling f/b trailer w/ 500 lb m/c, total being approx'ly 1300 lbs.) fuel mileage..? Is there a CPU enhancement that might reduce power and yield better m.p.g...? I don't necessarily need 270 H.P. as I so rarely ever gas it hard... [[ Note: I do have a Leer cab height camper shell with a pretty slim Maggiolina Extreme pop up camper top above it ]] Any thoughts...??
The first thing to do to lower your fuel cost is leave California!

Everyone should just walk. Human fuel is cheaper. Or get a horse.
Horse owner here of 49 years. The "get a horse" solution joke has been going around since the high gas prices... but let me tell you , it isn't cheaper!

In relation to petrol, I know that my ranger will be my last ICE vehicle from both an economic and ethical POV so I'm not awfully concerned about rising petrol from my own situation.

Although I have to say, from my home country (I live in the US now) where 87 costs the equivalent of around 10-12 USD/Gal (depending on the rapid price swings), the amount of complaining by Americans about fuel prices is genuinely comical.

What's comical is calling driving an ICE vehicle unethical.

Is fossil fuel any better? absolutely not. You don’t need to look far or very hard for the environmental atrocities associated with fossil fuel extraction.
And before you get on your high horse about mineral extraction…I work in that industry focusing on quarry/mine remediation.

there is significant evidence showing how much better alternative energy sources are for the climate, environmental systems, death rates, public health and general well being.

just one such source:https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7567144/

Pro tip: it even provides a plain language summary on the research findings.
