Is fossil fuel any better? absolutely not. You don’t need to look far or very hard for the environmental atrocities associated with fossil fuel extraction.
And before you get on your high horse about mineral extraction…I work in that industry focusing on quarry/mine remediation.

there is significant evidence showing how much better alternative energy sources are for the climate, environmental systems, death rates, public health and general well being.

just one such source:https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7567144/

Pro tip: it even provides a plain language summary on the research findings.
Well that's telling them, but it will fall on deaf ears, whenever I need to get a healthy dose of misinformation regards EVs and renewable energy sources this is an outstanding site to visit, I do so whenever I can tear myself away from FOX news, I'm transfixed by Tucker Carlson's seemingly perpetual stare into the camera, I try to stare back but I'm a very poor understudy.:frown:

My biggest problem with BEV is range and infrastructure. Or really that it's being mandated before the range and charging infrastructure is available for the places I drive.
I mostly do Alaska, British Columbia, and the western states (try to stay out of California). I avoid the main routes and interstates as much as possible but that is where the charge stations are. 700-800 miles a day isn't do-able and that is often what I need to do.

My father worked a strip mine operation for 47 years. My grandfather died of black lung before I ever knew him. I've seen the effects of mining.

FYI I think someday we will be able to shift from burning fossil fuels to an alternative but I don't think anything out now is practical from a cost or efficiency point of view. IMO the only practical option for electric production out there now to replace natural gas is nuclear an most environmentalists want nothing to do with it. I've also read there are questions on the availability of Cobalt an as more an more car makers shift to EV's the price is going to skyrocket, possibly by a 1000% or or more. Here's one of the articles I've seen on the potential problems with going all electric too soon.

I'm old an grumpy an set in my ways but I'm not opposed to advancements if they are practical an affordable. I don't think we're ready for a large scale shift. I think we're decades away.

Since this thread was to be about mpg enhancements, I'll ask y'all this:
Do those of you with tonneau covers notice any appreciable mpg gains?

I haven't noticed anything. You would think it would help but I but one on an it didn't notice anything. Seems like I remember someone sharing a video where a guy was doing quarter mile runs in an F150 with the tailgate up and down to see if anything changed with time or speed an nothing changed.

Found the video an for time/speed no cover tailgate up looks like a winner.

I would think a leather/pleather one might help with the coefficient drag but I doubt it would be anything substantial. The heavier plastic tri folds would have more weight and probably equal out with the CD.
