And that compares to gasoline there how?

I'm just saying that 150% of the mileage for 150% of the cost seems like 6 of one, half a dozen of another.
Honestly I think gas is about the same. No choice as the Ranger only comes with a diesel also. Frankly I get gas at the station I like and never even look at the price anyways. Just one of those necessities.

Of course you only got the one option, but at least you get the choice of a Raptor.

I do the same. Gotta have it.

There's a lot of folks stateside that wish the diesel was available here. I've got a feeling they'd be a bit let down by it in reality.

In regards to the diesel it does what I need just fine. The fact that I do at least get good mpg is a plus. My tank is 80 liters which is good for about 800+ kms or about 500 miles. I am happy with it. First diesel I ever owned, and this is like my 56th vehicle. I like the sound of my baby diesel. ??

For sure.

Diesel sounds are great.

I've had an unrequited love affair with diesel trucks for a while. And diesels are dead in the US except for the heavy haulers. My naysaying is mostly just to take some of the bitterness away.

And if they owned a diesel in the US they might currently be ticked off at the fuel cost - which is f'cst to rise, we supposedly now are about to have a diesel fuel crisis - supplies are low as are heating oils.

Possibly.

I do know that DEF and it's systems make playing with a diesel engine difficult to say the least.

I ran the numbers when I was truck shopping, because the diesel colorado was on my list. But I saw that the cost numbers were effectively a wash. with the diesel engine in those costing as much as it did overall, and the Ranger being less expensive, that changed my priorities a bit.

yeah, the increased range per tank of fuel ends up being the only real benefit for me. maybe the diesel would be more economical than gas if I was towing more often?

I loved the idea of a diesel Bison. The included "Jake brake" was definitely a turn on. Even wanted to love it after the test drive.
But like you, when I ran the numbers it turned out to be fuzzy math.

21-22 mpg city no Auto Start Stop as it's disabled. Highway is 26 possibly higher just the fact I didn't have consistent driving conditions on my road trip to Florida and back to get a proper calculation. Only two actual good days of highway driving hand calculated was 26.5 mpg. That was with a box loaded with luggage stoller extra car seat and 3 people in the cab.

Diesel is an extreme long term investment. I had talked about it with my service advisor as we compared the Ranger to other trucks IE Diesel Colorado. I had said if I bought either when available a Diesel F150 or Colorado it would essentially be the last Truck I buy. Because the benefits of owning a Diesel come after 5 years of ownership and grow more the longer you have it.

Tell that to an ex-neighbor who once owned a 2004 F250 with the 6.0 Powerstroke. I realize the issues have been finally worked out but the experience clearly left a bitter taste. He's a bit of a study but that's another subject.

I can buy that.

The problem is will the truck built around it last that long?

The first problem was the fact that it was a 6.0L Powerstroke. Both the 6.4L and 6.0L were problems from the get go due to Ford and International being forced to rapid comply with EPA laws. The emissions choked causing excessive back pressure and turbos blew left and right or even more of engines flat out blowing. It's what ended up breaking Ford and International apart. The new 6.7 Scorpion is built like a brick house and even with Ford bumping power emissions compliant.

I can see the F series being able to survive the test of time. Being here in the Midwest older trucks still reign, 90's Rams, Silverados, F-series can be found on the road. Some in good condition some that if you slapped hard enough might fall apart. Colorado, best thing to do would be get on a forum and ask owners who still have their 7 year old Colorados and see if they are still holding together.

I stopped looking at my onboard fuel mileage computer and comparing it all the time. The first slow drive-thru you sit in puts it through the roof and it never recovers.
When I first got my Ranger I despised the auto start/stop, now I'm cursing it because it doesn't activate often enough, in said drive-thrus.
The main reason I bought FORSCAN. To disable the stupid ASS (Auto Start Stop). I've managed to get up to 22-23 which is 4-5 MPG better than my girlfriends F150 3.5 Ecoboost. I added a boost gauge and I TRY to keep it off of boost as much as possible.
