I had the Check Engine Light come on, but it went off on it’s own and hasn’t came back on. As long as the CEL stays off my Range has been perfect. I love it!

I am a retired fleet mechanic , car builder, and SCCA crew chief.
That doesn't mean I know everything or that I can't be surprised.

I would NOT buy an automatic transmission for 45 years until recently.
The new 10SPD automatic is one of three major reasons for me to buy the Ranger.
The second? The 2.3L Ecoboost.
The third of course is that it is a Ranger in every important respect.

One thing I learned and made my living on , is the fact that everything put together... sooner or later falls apart... Including us!
So I drive a Ford, because later is better than sooner!
Jury is out on the ecoboost, but I feel ok about that. There *are* issues being reported with the transmission.. how bad, we will see. My Dads engine in his 09 let go due to the well known problems with the engine and he serviced every 5k miles. And he also suffered from the well known clunk in the rear end went starting from a stop... never fixed even with replacement drive shaft. I do like Fords (Ranger, Bronco II, 2 Mustang Mach 1s) but it doesn't pay to be blind to a brand.

Anyway, appreciate the participation by voters and appreciate the info and opinions shared in the forum.

I noticed the discolored driver door panel before taking delivery. Dealer swapped it with a good one off another Ranger they had on the lot while we waited. No issues since bring it home 4/5/19. 900 miles so far.

I had a 2.7 EcoBoost in an F150 before my Ranger and it was great. Of course it was a 3 year lease so I would expect it to not have issues during that period. I think the EcoBoosts will be just fine for a long time, but at some point there could be some major repairs needed. With that said, if I was buying a vehicle that I wanted to keep for years and years I’d get an F150 with the 5.0 V8. That’s pretty much Ford’s crown jewel gas engine.

I'm kind of surprised by your comment that the jury is out on the EcoBoost - they have been out for quite a number of years now, and with the exception of some isolated issues (head gasket failures), they have proven themselves to be reliable engines.

As far as the transmission goes, I've not heard of any real issues with it. The TSB is for some programming changes, but this transmission is in a BUNCH of vehicles, both Ford and GM (since it was co-developed) and has been very reliable as far as I know. Do you have info I haven't seen?

I like Fords but I'm willing call out a turd when I see a turd (like the back seat design), but the engine and transmission in the Ranger are one of the shining high points to me. In all the reviews I've seen the powertrain was very consistently called out as "Great". Given that both the engine and transmission have been used in other vehicles, I really don't see it being an issue.

I’m so happy with my Ranger I went and bought out the lease last week. I knew I was going to keep it after the lease and wanted to avoid the rental fee. It’s a keeper.

Well I spoke too soon... The CEL is back on. The dealer pulled a #1 injector error when I took it in the first time. At this point it seems there are several of us with injector problems. :frown:

I love my truck. Only issues I have had is the driver side window had a scratch on delivery and the bed cover was back ordered. Both items will be taken care of this morning. For what it's worth any vehicle can have issues and there is no way to know in advance. For instance, I was just in FL for a week and rented a 2019 Explorer. It had 6000 miles on it and I had to return it during the week as a check engine light came on and it started idling rough. I hope you stick with it as I think you will be very pleased once you get your truck.

Hang tough, this will get sorted out and you’ll be racking up fun times with your truck soon. That’s what I keep telling myself.

Unfortunately, stuff like this is one of the drawbacks of the highly electronic vehicles we have today. Electronics almost always fail either very early, or they will last a long time. Apparently there were some bad injectors along the way. Maybe they should have build the engine in Cleveland rather than Mexico... :like:

To be fair, it was probably driven like a rental

New truck, first run, that is what you better be ready to deal with. It is a very complicated piece of machinery, that is why you spent so much money and waited so patiently to get the first opportunity to drive the NEW Ranger. Now dont go jump off a cliff. LOL
