Getting ready to do pads on my 2021. It was my understanding if you put it in EBrake Service Mode, you can use a regular clamp press to drive back the piston? Still trying to find a descent pad upgrade to try.
I'm sorry Don, I am not familiar with the "EBrake Service Mode". As far as I know, you have to wind the piston back in. I found the tool on Amazon for about $25. Well worth it compared to the little cube that is also sold to wind in the pistons.

Above is a great link for the rear brakes provided by john @Jhbryaniv . This link has Ford instructions on the replacement of the rear pads provided by @airline tech.

I believe the vehicles with electric parking brakes have the ebrake service mode. Thankfully the Ranger still has a manual ebrake.

If the brakes were metal to metal, you would certainly hear them.

Were I you, I would go somewhere else to get a second opinion.
If I was you or him I would be doing the brakes myself... :) :)

Hard to trust anyone that works on your cars nowadays.

True. I still do all my own service work such as oil changes, brakes, plugs, etc. As long as I am able, I prefer to DIY.

So, I've had my 2020 Supercab for around 30 months, and it has around 40k miles on it. Recently the D/S center bearing needed to be replaced. Since then I've felt a slight shudder at start up. I took it in to get it evaluated, and they said it is "normal", which doesn't surprise me as the shudder wasn't very significant. I also got the oil and filter changed, and also asked them to evaluate a clunking sound from the front end. They said the stabilizer bar needed to be replaced. They also "discovered" that the back brakes need new pads and rotors, as they were "metal on metal". To me, it seems too soon to be replacing center bearings, and stabilizer bars, and full back brakes. Not sure why the back brakes would be trashed before the front. Is this normal?

normal for a 5g Ford ranger, in my experience sadly yes. my truck has 35 and change on it and ive had all of those issues already. most of them before 25k. its at my mechanic shop now waiting on second set of brake pads, rotors, caliper assembly. and i got a spare center support bearing new in the box behind the rear seat for the next time... got it from benny at levitown. good price.

Just had rears done at 40k. Went for yearly state inspection, was told they are thin enough to fail. Owner knows there are poor people around, so he helps them out. (thankfully, I can afford repairs) Gave me the sticker, but advised me to get done within 1k to 2k. I saw them. Inboard was very thin. Fronts OK.

Curious, what was the original symptom that led to the driveshaft center bearing being replaced? I had one dealer tell me it needed to be replaced, another said it was fine. The only thing I've noticed that may be related is a noise from the rear-end most pronounced around 60-65 mph.

Curious, what was the original symptom that led to the driveshaft center bearing being replaced? I had one dealer tell me it needed to be replaced, another said it was fine. The only thing I've noticed that may be related is a noise from the rear-end most pronounced around 60-65 mph.
I couldn't quite remember what the symptoms were, but reading back I lodged it loose, and it was a grinding noise from under the truck. Wish I could remember more, but old age prevents it. ?
