I am debating to swing for 4wd because of what could happen in future for offroading or overlanding. I was planning 2wd and fx2 with locker but based what I have read it goes like this 4wd by wide margin, 2wd with locker and then just 2wd.

if you get the 4wd you have it. if you get the 2wd you will think back i could / should have.
think of it like this, if you feel you need the fx2 and diff locker etc. then what that tells you is your doubting the ability of a 2wd setup to do what you need it to do so your making it a tougher 2wd. skip that and go 4x4. a base xl 4x4 is going to do way more than an fx2.

4WD also gets you better resale value.

I bought a 4WD because I wanted it. Not for any real need for it. That being said, it is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Many in the USA would be envious of the opportunities for off-road adventures that you have near Moreno Valley. I would get the the 4x4 with locker or the FX4. The FX4 offers several different “Terrain Modes” with programmed settings for different environments, as well as the electronic locking rear differential. People do bitch about the on-road performance of the FX4 shocks.

Better to Have it and not need it then to need it and not have it.

And get the model you want… spend the extra $$ on the FX4 or Tremor. The terrain management and locking Diff alone are worth it. ?

I think always better to have 4x4 than not for re sale if nothing else. Plus I live in the snowy North.

FX4 shocks, springs and struts are garbage. My eibach 2.0 pro adjustable coilovers and rear shocks made a huge difference

FX4 is more than just suspension. ? agreed though, the shocks and struts are junk.
So 4x4 with locker option and skip the FX package would be the best combo. As most say the stock FX shocks are not great.

Between the 4x4 with locker, and the FX4, I would choose the FX4. I like the idea of the terrain modes, but I’m not excited about back-dooring it with Forscan. I haven’t owned a Windows computer since 2003, and have no interest in relearning it. I can get shocks installed anywhere, which is nearly a certainty if you want (and who doesn’t for off-road use) a small lift and larger tires.

If you plan on getting into Overlanding like I did, skip the 2wd BS and go 4x4. Skip the FX4 trim and just upgrade the TM yourself like others have done.

I have done plenty of trails that I didn’t need 4wd, but have also been in situations where it was needed. Plus when it comes to Overlanding, you don’t need 4wd, but don’t let the truck be the limitation keeping you from some epic camping locations.

Having 2wd is so limiting, especially in a vehicle with bad weight distribution like a pickup truck. Where I live, if you don't have 4x4 and snow rated tires, you are required to carry chains and use them when the lights at the bottom of the road are flashing (which is fairly often). You might live in florida or something, but wet grass on a slight incline can stop a pickup from moving in some scenarios. If all you do is drive on pavement then 2wd is fine but I find that pretty limiting, you never know what future use you might need 4x4 for.

Modern electronic 4x4 is very reliable and almost hassle free. If you want to play off-road it's worth having. As long as I live in a snow climate, I will always have 4x4 or AWD in my daily driver.

With that said if I lived in a dry, snow free climate, I'd have a 2WD with limited slip or rear locker as my daily driver, and purpose built off-road vehicle(s).

I could have a 2wd Ranger and a decent used off-road beast for close to the same cost as my FX4, and both of which are better suited to the tasks they face.

Have lived or driven in snow for decades and have always gotten 4WD or AWD. Lived in areas where chains were required and to me the 4WD or AWD paid for itself the first time I didn't have to chain and was waived through chain control.

So glad ID only suggests chain use but doesn't require it. Still went 4WD. Wife has AWD.
