I replaced mine with a larger tire last year before our UT trip but left the steel wheel on. Here's a place that has OEM wheels pretty reasonable, some are in better condition than others.

I just bought a 17 inch painted silver OEM rim from these folks for $147.49 including shipping. Rim was in great shape and I'm happy with the price and purchasing experience. I bought 5 Cooper Discoverer AT3 LT 265/70/R17 E rated tires from Discount Tire and plan to do a five tire rotation. New rim and tire fit well under truck. I bought the E rated tires because we are putting a slide-in truck camper in the truck.

If anyone is looking for 5 Hankook Dynapro AT-M 265/65/R17 tires with one mounted on a steel spare rim with only 731 miles let me know. I'm in Farmington, NM - Four Corners area.

A slightly smaller spare won't hurt the gears or the axle unless you have a locker or limited-slip. The Gen 5 Ranger locker is electronic so just don't turn it on if the spare is on the rear.
I've not had to use the spare on the Ranger so far but on my old Sport Trac the difference wasn't enough to trip the traction control sensor however the spare did not have a TPMS sensor so that light came on and also it wasn't balanced so I had the tire shop take care of that while it was there.
There is plenty of room for a larger spare, but if you want all 5 tires and wheels the same the issue is will the cable for the spare tire hoist fit through the center hole of another stock rim? I don't know.

It's 6:00 am and no response. Guess Greg fell asleep while crawling under his truck. :giggle:

Yes, it's a 17" steelie.

The factory spare has a center bore of 93.1mm, which is the smallest center bore that fits our wheel hub, and the cable end should fit any rim with 93.1mm or larger center bore.

That's common with most vehicles that factory rims are hubcentric, and the cable end is always slightly smaller. It's generally a safe bet the spare hanger will accommodate any rim you can fit on the truck, prohibited only by over-sized tires.

IIRC, it depends on which primary tires your truck came with.

I had a tire failure on my 2021 Lariat FX4 on the freeway which destroyed the tire (at only 2500 miles). It came with Hancook 265/60/R18 tires. I was disappointed to see the spare was 17”. I drove to the dealer as no one else had a matching tire at any tire store. The dealer ordered one at $268. Wow! Tires are getting expensive. They installed it a few days later. After driving around a week or so I noticed the replaced tire didn’t have the raised white lettering as the others. A return trip to the dealers and they ordered the correct tire and replaced it at no cost to me. A couple of days later, I opened my topper and there in the bed was the week old incorrect tire. I’m thinking if I can locate a steelie wheel in 18” size, I could have the correct and (almost) matching spare. I’m going to see if Les Schab can get me one.

I posted a new thread but realized this was here. My question is why? Why put 18's on all four and a 17 spare?

There's something about Ranger's wheel sensors that doesn't play well with different sized tires...one time, I had a leak in one of my 285s so I replaced it with the spare 265 and the warnings went crazy after a few miles...

Smaller is cheaper?

Most of the Rangers with 17" rims have 16" spares.

That is most likely due to the tire diameter, not the rim size. If one tire is more than ~.5" off from the rest, it will set off ABS and other warnings.

That's true. Some manufacturers use the wheel speed to detect a soft tire. I believe BMW is one.

Yep mine came with a 17" steelie with 265/65 17 tyre which matches the rest of the truck which is also 265/65 but in alloy. I just bought an as new matching alloy from someone on Gumtree for practically nothing, put on a new tyre, and now have a fully functional matching spare. I did notice the centre in the steelie wasn't particularly thick - maybe the spares are lightweight. I'd have to look at an XL specced truck to see what a standard steelie looks like.
