Bringing up this old thread for a question. I read through a lot of the thread but couldn't find the answer. I will be purchasing the 7/4 plug and wiring harness, and I think I'll be able to figure out where the wiring harness gets plugged in, but do I need to add any fuses/relays?

I noticed I am missing two relays and possibly one fuse labeled trailer lamps but can't figure out what relays to buy. Anyone else run into this?

Thanks!!!
I had the tow package added on mine after not coming with it factory. My dealer didn't mention any fuses on the write up for the work/labor done. My only parts were hitch, 4/7 wire harness and adapter. They definitely would've charged me if new fuses were installed.

I added the tow package to my 2019 and did not have to mess with adding any additional relays or fuses. The install for the wiring and plug was completely plug and play aside from hacking the hole for the plug to fit in the plastic panel.

Hello everyone, I know this thread is old but it's relevant to me. I also read through every page and didn't find an answer.

I just purchased a 2020 Ranger Lariat 4x4. It doesn't have a tow package on it, I came to the decision about adding the factory one, no big deal. I can't seem to find out if after the package is added do I need to take it in to the dealer and have them reprogram something or turn features on or off? My truck has tow haul mode and also menus for towing and trailer sway. Thanks in advance for your help.

I am trying to get this figured out as well. My understanding is the receivers are not available, getting estimates of 2 weeks to end of year. Dealer suggested I go after market, but I want to wait for Ford OEM.

I ordered the 7 pin bumper mount connector (received and looks right) waiting on wire harness and receiver mount. Install looks easy, 4 bolts off, swap all the stuff out (wire harness, bumper trim, sensors) 6 bolts back on.

For now, you can mount ball to bumper, there is a 4 pin connector under the number, tow a small trailer. My issue for my jetski is the bumper is a bit high.
How much can u tow with the ball on bumper?

Rangerguy91, no programming is required for the tow package install on your truck. The 7 pin wiring and sleeve are "plug and play"..

Noted was. Just curious... Where do u recommend
Get a proper hitch, such as what I linked above. Even for light weight stuff. You dont even have to run any additional wiring, unless you need trailer brake support. Then youll need to wire a 7 pin connector and a trailer brake controller.

Curt or Draw Tite. They should have wiring adapters also. The truck already has a 4-pin plug for trailer lights only. You only need the 7-pin if you have a trailer with electric brakes. Most states require trailer brakes of some sort for trailers over 2000 lb.

They have a 7 pin adapter that plugs into the 4 to make it a 7 is that ok?

They make an adapter yes, but it is important to understand the difference in the 2 connectors. The 7 pin connector supports trailer brakes, where the 4 pin does not. If you have a trailer with a 7pin connection, it almost certainly has a trailer brake. However, just having the wiring and the 7 pin connector (as is the case with the factory tow package) does not support a trailer brake. You need a trailer brake controller as well, which sends a varying signal to the brakes based on how hard you are braking. I believe anything over 3000 lbs is recommended to have a trailer brake.

If you are handy, you can add a hitch and trailer brake controller for around $500-$600.

Anyone have an idea of labor costs for the dealership to install factory hitch/harness? They quoted me 5-7 hours at $150 per hour, seems a little high.

Agree, seems high. Especially considering the cost of the OE at purchase is about $425. You may have better luck elsewhere where labor would be $70-$90 p/hr.

Normally I would just install a hitch from e trailer myself. But I like the fact that its OEM. This may be a dumb thought but Ford rated it at 7.5k towing with the oem hitch not an aftermarket one. Not that I'll be towing that much but I would like to keep it as close to factory as I can.
