Thanks.. I've seen all those.

I was wondering if they updated the design to tuck it up tighter. It looks like an entry level kid designed it, the way it hangs down so low.

There is not a lot of room from where after market hitches bolt to and the bottom of the bumper. There is a completely different bumper for the factory towing option that moves it higher from the ground. Plus, factory is way more expensive than after market.

My towing setup
$35 = 7/4 pin plug, part # FU5Z-14489-A
$70 = Wire Harness part # KB3Z-15K868-D
$147 = Curt hitch #13417

Will be using my saving from after market option on Ammo.

Finally decided to pull the trigger on the 7/4 pin plug, part # FU5Z-14489-A and Wire Harness part # KB3Z-15K868-A

Of the two retailers I ordered from they both cancelled my order saying the parts are on 4 week nationwide backorder. Can't even get the 2 missing tie down hooks for the bed either... Anyone know anywhere they're currently in stock? Ford seems kind of lousy with parts support, never run into parts shortages with GM vehicles.

Hi TG,

In my 30 career at Ford, I have never seen a program with so much parts shortage as the 2019 Ranger.... I simply do not get what happened but it has put a terrible, but deserved tarnish on the Ranger.... Sad, Sad Sad...

There are a couple different wiring harnesses. My Ranger XLT with backup sensors required wire harness KB3Z-15K868-D.

I my area all dealers parts departments listed it as back ordered. So, ordered it through https://parts.ford.com/en.html shipped to me received it in four days.
Recommend selecting a few different dealers to get the best price. Quoted $87 to $70

I already placed another order that hasn't shipped yet but the retailer hasn't cancelled yet either. If I get another cancellation I may take you up on that offer.

Finally got my harness in guys. It was almost 2 months but they finally called me to come pick it up from my dealer..once i got it i wasted no time took me literally like 2 mins... it probably wouldve been possible to take it off without the spare but its so much easier without it there i literally could sit up under my truck ....granted im pretty short at 5 '11

I believe I made a mistake and ordered the wrong part...
To save anyone else a headache. KB3Z-15K868-A is definitely NOT the part you need for 7 way... I thought that KB3Z-15K868-A is the non sensor version of the 4/7 pin harness, and KB3Z-15K868-D is the version for sensors... the A version appears to be the exact harness I already installed.

I believe I have the variations figured out now.

KB3Z-15K868-A: 4 pin harness w/o sensors
KB3Z-15K868-B: 4 pin harness w/sensors
KB3Z-15K868-C: 4/7 pin harness w/o sensors (the one I need)
KB3Z-15K868-D: 4/7 pin harness w/sensors

someone else may be able to confirm.

Hey y'all,

Sorry in advance for the novel - Quick question on the Ford OEM hitch KB3Z-19D-520A... Ford lists it as a Class I on their parts site, which doesn't make sense any sense to me (pretty sure the Ranger can tow more off the bumper than a Class I and its a 2 inch receiver). Can anyone confirm that this part # is a Class IV, or is at minimum rated to 7500 GTW?

Assuming that KB3Z-19D-520A is rated to at least 7500 GTW, this is what I am thinking I need for my 2019 XLT SuperCrew if I wanted to go OEM parts (I'm definitely open to suggestions):

KB3Z-19D-520A - Seems to be the go to OEM Hitch...Ford lists as Class I?
KB3Z-15K868-D - Wiring Harness with rear sensors
FU5Z-14489-A - 7 Pin Connector
VKB3Z-2C006-A - Optional Trailer Break Controller

I'll try and sum up what I believe the difference between the factory tow package and getting it installed at the dealer is below (fair warning, I am coming from the Jeep world and am totally new to the truck world). I wont bother listing every variation (sensors, without sensors, etc) but should be pretty easy to find what y'all need:

I've found this link to be a pretty good breakdown of the parts needed - that link is filtered on a 2019 supercrew xlt. You'll notice it refers to parts as "Tow Package 1" and "Tow Package 2"...believe Tow Package 1 = No Tow Package, and Tow Package 2 = Factory Installed Tow Package
MD19835.png

You can see the differences between the Tow Package (#4) and non tow package (#3)...I believe the Step Pad (#14) and the lower bumper cover spacer panel (tow package is #10, non is #9) are the differences I can find...excluding wiring harness, and 7 pin connector.

I believe the below comprises the Factory Tow Package (assuming you need rear sensors):
KB3Z-17D826-D - Hitch if Tow Package is installed in Factory - Class IV
REPLACES - KB3Z-17D826-C - Non Tow Package Part
KB3Z-17F774-A - Bumper Cover Spacer Panel (Lower)
KB3Z-17F774-B - Bumper Cover Spacer Panel (Lower)
REPLACES - KB3Z-17F828-A - Non Tow Package Bumper Cover Spacer Panel
KB3Z-17B807-C - Step Pad
REPLACES - KB3Z-17B807-D - Non Tow Package Step Pad
KB3Z-15K868-D - Wiring Harness with rear sensors
FU5Z-14489-A - 7 Pin Connector

Frankly, if that is correct, its doesn't seem to be too much extra in parts or labor to remove the parts from a non-tow package Ranger to equip it with the parts that make up a tow package Ranger. Would love if someone else could give this a glance and see what they think!

Edit: Seems like KB3Z-17D826-D is the factory tow hitch based on this link

Yeah, buying factory parts after the vehicle is purchased is always pricey.

The tow package was $750 ordered with the truck. But you get the contoured bumper and the tight tuck hitch.

Bringing up this old thread for a question. I read through a lot of the thread but couldn't find the answer. I will be purchasing the 7/4 plug and wiring harness, and I think I'll be able to figure out where the wiring harness gets plugged in, but do I need to add any fuses/relays?

I noticed I am missing two relays and possibly one fuse labeled trailer lamps but can't figure out what relays to buy. Anyone else run into this?

Thanks!!!
