What was your grandfather driving back then?
Column shift Ford vans…he made furniture. I think I mentioned this elsewhere, but thru him I got my first Ford, first truck, and it was 3 on tree manual overdrive.

He would hit that hill in second gear, floored, and me and my cousin would be bouncing around in the back. No seats, seatbelts, just a pile of old quilts.

Memories of our old ‘69 Fargo 1/2 ton - 318 cu. in. 3 on the tree. My brother swapped his ‘Cuda’s 318 for a 340 crate motor - my dad and I rebuilt his 318, bored it out as far as it could go - roughly to 340, ported and polished the heads, stuck on an Edeldrock intake and a Holley carb and put it in the Fargo - for fun, we bolted on some chrome side pipes. What a bunch of hillbillies - it was plenty fast but you had to shift like you meant it with that crazy column shifter and what seemed like 12” of clutch pedal travel.

Come to think of it, that thing put out less hp than our Rangers, but hey, you could put a full sheet of plywood between the wheel wells and close the tailgate!

Took an after work drive up to Fall River Reservoir yesterday to escape the city heat for a bit. The turbo-4 paired with the 10 speed was great fun driving up the steep mountain grades - so much more lively than any other truck/suv I've driven before. Took a nice easy trail and got to try out trail control - pretty sweet! It was a good mix of rocky bits and smoother curvy bits. I definitely want to upgrade to the Fox 2.0 kit, but the truck was very capable nonetheless. The light was great, so I took lots of pictures. Here's a few:

Took it on a road trip to look at and leave a deposit on a new F-450. Work from home with my company has been extended to next August due to a renovation of the corporate facility so my wife and I decided to buy a BIG 5th wheel and travel the country for the next year while we can.
Sweet! Why the 450 over the 350 or even 250 diesel? Maybe a toy hauler over 30'?

Honestly set out for a 350, but they had this newly arrived 450 on the lot and it wasn't much more. Like the bigger brakes, wheels/tires, more robust suspension, and it has the FX-4 pkg. It also has the bigger alternator, trailering cameras, the factory bed liner and 5th wheel receiver as well. It is exactly what I would have ordered had I set out to place an order. I was surprised how nice it drives with no load. I'd always heard they were a rough ride. The turning radius also nearly 14' tighter on the 450 vs 350.

Ahh yes the shortage of options. Sweet that sounds perfect. I drove a 2020 250 and couldn't believe how smooth it was on road with a load. Unbelievable. Congrats.

Same, yet somehow I lived to old age doing that plus riding bikes without a helmet.

Showing my kids how to do work in 95 degree heat, how to drive, pull piles of cut down cleared trees, and how not to wreck my new pickup. Lol. They drove pretty good pulling the piles of trees. Ranger in the first pic, lightning blue, not the broken down f250. Younger one parked the pickup in the shade. Made me super nervous. Had to look away as he parked in the shade. Age 14. Lawnmower man 17. Lol

Drove to farm shop, bough some plastic fence poles & electric wire. Had to open up the pole cardboard boxes since those 1,6m poles were in two stacks. Grumbled why the damn bed cannot be at least 1 meter longer, wondered who actually designs these things and why the hell we get only these mini-cars in Europe anyway.

After that unloaded all the rubber boots, work gloves, etc. and took the family to a restaurant for a birthday party. Made me wonder why the cabin is so small and there is not a separate storage compartment after the back seats.

Phil.. send a comment to your pals that we need SuperSuperCrewCab with extended bed in Raptor trim in future. Preferably with PHEV. Say 7m long or so (23 feet).

Sounds like you need to import a full sized Raptor.

Or this guy...
